Some people in coma still dream and technically you are conscious. well i am an atheist but i find it hard to see that death is just an end. i dont believe in god or a creator but i do think there is more to our consciousness. maybe we will enter a dream-like state for ever and eventually it becomes your reality. no matter how hard you try, you cant remember how a dream begins. think about it. you remember your dreams but you cant remember how it began. maybe thats what will happen to your conciousness. you forget how you entered the dream like state and then that becomes your reality and the cycle continues. but i can see there are alot flaws in that. maybe you become a part of the universe. your conciousness endlessly roams the universe, and beyond. or well, maybe you enter the 4th, 5th and other dimensions. maybe this body you are in is holding your conciousness from going into the 4th dimension. what do you think happens to your consciousness after death?

Nothing. Consciousness is the result of the functional operation of our bodies' biological processes, when those processes cease so does consciousness. I do believe in a sort of eternal property of the matter which constitutes us, since it can neither be created nor destroyed, but I don't believe our consciousness survives, just that what we are physically will someday be a part of many different objects in the physical world.

it just ceases to exist.

nothingness, just like before you were born.

how do you know there was nothing before birth when you cant even remember the day you were born. infact you cant even remember when you were less than a year old.

I hope there is a little more, but the ending of consciousness after death seems like the most rational scenario.

I also think this is what happens, which scares me sometimes when I think about that concept, I dont want to die,

when I die it's pretty much like I never existed, I'm ...gone, just like that, everything I ever did, experienced, my memories ...gone,

what a cruel fate, and we have to live knowing that death is inevitable, oh well, kinda sucks, but hopefully I'm wrong

From her perspective there was nothign before she was born. It's oblivion.

Seems pretty straightforward. Consiousness is a biproduct of the complex network of neurons in our brains. When those connecitons break down - we cease to exist (or rather our conciousness does).

There is 0 reason to believe otherwise.

It's not that cruel when you think of it in a way that many scientists do. Richard Dawkings had a quote

After sleeping through a hundred million centuries we have finally opened our eyes on a sumptuous planet, sparkling with color, bountiful with life. Within decades we must close our eyes again. Isnt it a noble, an enlightened way of spending our brief time in the sun, to work at understanding the universe and how we have come to wake up in it? This is how I answer when I am askedas I am surprisingly oftenwhy I bother to get up in the mornings.

Nobody knows. When you pass out your brain is still working, when you die who knows what might happen, I don't want a start a religion war.

Who really knows? You'll probably go on to learn something new after your life experiences are stored in the Akashic Records. Imo, life here is one big school, we are here to learn and grow spiritually through emotional experiences. Doing some research in the field of "Past Life Regressions" may be helpful to you. I also like to think death is like the state of dreaming, returning to your higher self/source contemplating daily deeds before waking up or reprogramming your next life lessons before reincarnation, which often means tackling the same issues/lessons again until they are learned. There are many people believing they were here many life times and their testimonies can be quite convincing. there's a lot of people thinking we came here to learn responsiblity/the basics of life before moving on to something new and complex. But logically speaking, the dead tells no tales so noone can really say for certain what happens after death, but you can prepare for it by living out these short life spans in a non idled manner. The last thing I want to do is come back here to go through the same experiences because I didn't learn/react to those lessons properly the last time I was here. As I said before, who knows? I'm not rushing to know, nor am I living my life in fear or stagnation.

It ends. If my brain is dead, I don't have a consciousness anymore.

Cousciousness is you, it's your self awareness. I think after you die it just goes on, it's who you are, it's pure energy. It's a part of your soul.

yup^^ Imagine it like this. The brain is like an antenna/receiver, its main purpose is to operate the body, and the body is just a vehicle for the spirit to ride around in. The body is a phenomenal fully equip bio machine and its used to decipher the 3d information by interactions of a physical form (body). Your higher self (true self) governs the body (you) from the astral plane. Think of it this way: A scientist wants to examine some new substances it found hidden away deep inside the Earth. But he knows very little about it so he wears a hazmat suit and experiments with the substance from the outside of an airtight incubator. The body is the hazmat suit and the Earth is the airtight incubator.

Just nothing most likely. I would like to believe you enter deep connection to the universe and know all until you enter another stage of something...but that is very doubtful. Guess we will all just have to wait to find out.

does this mean i will be in a different body with a different conciousness? i mean really? what is the difference between me and you. the only thing that makes you is your memories. if i wipe that clean, your conciousness is once again empty. you are not yourself anymore. so then i could be you because you are now a blank slate. but in order for that to happen, i must wipe my memories clean. so we are both just pure conciousness. think about it. conciousness is shaped by memories. once that is erased, me and you become the same conciousness. but the only problem is, time. within less than a second you are you and i am me. but if we were to freeze time so no more memories are made. and we are both clean slates with no recolection of anything, not even ourselves. whats dividing us? nothing. we are one.

There is more to it than memories. There have been people that lost all memories but they still retain their sense of self, they may not know who they are exactly but they are self aware.

What's it like to wake up after never having gone to sleep. It's the same as going to sleep and never waking up.
