I don't think anything of them. If they wish to stick to one language and don't feel the need to learn another then that's their choice and I'm sure they'll make it through life fine if they're smart about what they're doing (ie not going to a foreign country to live and work and not learn at least a decent amount of the native tongue). Good on those who do learn and can speak another language other than their mother tongue.

Nicely put.
I did take spanish classes in High school, all the way up to Spanish III.
then my senior year I pretty much forgot 98% of what I learned...
I can't think of any other reasons as to why someone could still be a monoliguists in this day and age, and not at least be bilingual, except that they are either dumb or lazy. So naturally I look down on them.Lonelynight
I've never encountered any situation where it would have helped for me to know another language besides english. So.... fvck you, buddy. Naturally, I look down on you, because you're clearly some kind of self-righteous piece of sh!t.
This is pretty much the best that can be said on the subject. To add my own thoughts I find most monolinguists aren't so out of laziness or stupidity but because they feel no interest or need to learn another language. I know that feeling personally because throughout high school I didn't care about French (I'm from BC and even though almost no one here speaks french it was effectively forced on me) but after leaving I've since become more interested in language and have gone from being absolutely atrocious to passable. I also find that mentality on languages is a huge hurdle many struggle with when learning that second language. The idea that words have some sort of inherent value seems very engraved in people. It's the concept that matters. Personally I found the schools were teaching direct translations far too much and I think that's in part of why I, if no one else, struggled with it.I don't think anything of them. That's just a disgusting attitude. Sorry to be so blunt, but there's no other way I can phrase that. Simply put, I don't really feel like I should need to learn another language. Every country bar one (Japan) that I would like to visit someday uses English as its primary language, therefore I don't feel that it's a mandatory requirement that I should learn another language. And besides, with so many countries adopting English...
why do you really need to learn any language besides english?JigglyWiggly_
Oh, and I should add that I can read French, German and a few basic terms in Japanese and Indonesian, but I don't know what I am saying, if you know what I mean.

I know a few languages.
English
C++
Fortran
COBOL
Foxpro
If you mean human languages, sorry, I was too busy learning how to communicate with machines. (Though I can read some Hebrew, Greek and Latin, just don't try to converse with me in those languages).
I'm technically bilingual, but in practice I hardly ever use any language besides English. I've thought about putting in some effort into learning other languages, but ironically all of the ones I have any interest in at all are Indo-European. These are nowhere near useful for me as learning Mandarin, which I should technically be able to speak almost by default since I'm a Han Chinese.

I think being able to communicate with machines is a much more useful than being able to communicate with humans, too bad I don't understand any of those ****i don't actually look down on them.TC looks down on the majority of the world's population. Yippee.
I look down on douches like the TC, whilst using multiple languages...so there.

I almost never do, since the only function that it's served me so far in life was literally for answering exam questions. In college, you can get by with English for just about everything.

which college is that? Also, will probably be annoying dealing with the public sector if you don't speak Malay, since a lot of the public sector workers can't actually speak anything besides malay.I've taken two years of Spanish, one year of French, and one year of Latin in high school. I am still very much a monolinguist. I can be a monolinguist because English is my native tongue, and I live in America. The only other language that could ever plausibly be of use in day-to-day life would be Spanish, but even then, only occasionally. Learning a language would be an endeavor almost purely for personal satisfaction, which would be fun, but there are only 24 hours in any given day, and life is short.

I was goign to say that but then i realized nahI don't have a huge issue with them, ideally everyone would speak atleast 2 languages but I can hardly talk. I have more of an issue with people who ignore the fact there are other countries such as people who go to Spain and want a Full English or people who act like their nation is the centre of the universe. It seems especially odd to me that films not made in the US tend to be put in one big category of 'foreign films' and that people won't listen to music just because the lyrics are in a foreign language.markop2003People listen to music with foreign language all the time if it's electro/dubstep
The US is not Europe. Every state does not have its own language.
There is no need to know another language you won't use 99.9999% of the time.
dercoo
Exactly lol
Not that there's anything wrong with learning another language but there is no need for it in the US.
I personally think that they're missing out, but at the same time I can see why people wouldn't want to learn how to speak another language.Currently, I'm learning two language, but I hardly use the third language because there are no native speakers where I live (it's french btw). It's also difficult to learn other languages if you weren't exposed to it at an early age and it saddens me that elementary schools don't really offer foreign languages.
Overall, I say that people should learn other languages to boaden their horizons.
I live in England, why do I need to learn other languages exactly?bobbetybobYou're so close to Europe, and it'll be so easy to travel for you. I live in Australia, which is on the other side of the world and I speak German and a bit of Polish...so yeah.

This[QUOTE="whiskeystrike"]Agree. TC should stick to Malyasian websites if they can't stop bringing up the fact they are from Malaysia and putting down English speaking countries. This. TC better watch out before he gets banned again.I don't judge people for what languages people speak. Pretty immature to do so.

I don't see the need to learn another language besides English right now (I've taken some foreign langueages in high school, but can't speak anything fluently). It would be neat, but at least if you're in America, there's no pressing need to learn anything other than English.

Poor education. I think a big reason why kids struggle in many subjects is because they get a bad start early in their education. I don't fault them for not picking up a second language easily, but I do fault them for not trying again later in their education. If you can only speak one language then your world is unnecessarily small.
