It's fine if you just have to send a quick message, or when you have to talk with someone in a place where you have to be quiet (like say, a library) but having full on conversations with people when you could just call them up is stupid. (seriously, you have a freaking phone in your hand, isn't it easier to just call them?)
I can understand the idea of being in a situation that you can't talk and needing to contact someone but I hardly ever get in this situation and 99.9% of people who text abuse the the orginal concept.
I find it stupid if you text back and forth having a conversation when you can just call them and talk. It's okay if you just want to write something short...
I find it too much a pain to do. The texting I do is off Xfire with my friends when playing games, but other then that, when it comes to mobile text chat I hate it.
Personally i've never done it. I can see the convenience of it, but it seems like it makes you less sociable because since you're able to text your friends whenever and wherever there really isn't any incentive for someone to come out of their shell and meet new people. I see people at school all the time who just text all class when they don't know the people around them instead of reaching out and actually getting to know them.
As do I, and I find more and more of my customers use it as well, a bit quicker than e-mail, and helps those who don't have backberrys or other "smartphones". Amazing, never texted before 2 years ago, do 30+ times a day now.
meh, i do it just if it's a quick question/comment, or w/e to one of my friends (ask if they want to hang out, etc.) i don't actually have conversations like allot of people do...
