Recently got a bracelet for my birthday from my mother. I don't know what to do with it. I don't even know if it looks good on me or it doesn't. It also has these two ropes to fasten it with and the end lies free after I fasten it. It feels weird to wear one. I was never really a person who wears watches too.

Meh, what does OT think of bracelets and which one do you like if you do (post pics and stuff) ... yay or nay?

Yeah, men's jewelry is just all around weird. Traci gets me stuff like that once a year or so and I wear it once to make her happy and never put it on again. I guess I'm pretty much a function over form kind of person.

I thought the only acceptable thing for men to wear around their wrists was a watch.

I only wear a watch myself but I don't mind men's bracelets. Seen a few that look pretty nice and that I wouldn't mind wearing.

I wear watches. That's the closest thing to a bracelet I have.

As a female I hate jewellery on men. The only items of jewellery I want on a man is a watch and a wedding ring.

I'm of the mindset that real men don't dance or wear jewelry. A simple wedding ring and a fine timepiece are acceptable. Earrings, necklaces, bracelets, etc.; not so much.

@bforrester420: LOL...kinda how I feel (sans the dancing). That said, I do have a gold bracelet I wear. I would never have purchased it for myself, though, it was a gift from my wife and it means a lot to her that I wear it. She kinda knows this as well. Frankly, I'd rather pawn it and put the money in the bank but whatever. She likes it on me and it doesn't bother me all that much.

Jewelry, especially gold and diamonds are some of the biggest wastes of money I can think of.

I don't normally like extra weight to carry.

That includes clothes. I only wear it for status and by the time I get home I take my heavy clothes off and wear really light clothing. I'd prefer to be naked but I'd feel really cold.

What's the issue with them? If they look cool then hey whatever, sure. Same with necklaces, piercings, or anything really. They probably just wouldn't be made of the same materials as women's jewelry, but of course it also depends on cultures and fashion trends.

As a rule, I generally dislike jewelry or "accessories" of any kind; I think it is pure vanity and superficial in many cases, not including sentimental items like wedding rings or heirlooms.

I mean, why? Why would you wear a "man's" bracelet? It serves no purpose, it does not look cool, and in fact you might actually cause others to negatively judge you when you wear it (hope you don't wear it on job interviews. for example).

In the end it's not a huge deal to me, I don't really care that much. But if I ever met a dude with a thumb ring, "man's" bracelet, exceedingly expensive watch, and items of that nature, my initial impression will be "Man, this guy is a total douche nozzle"

Never thought of bracelets as "feminine". Nothing wrong with men wearing them.

But I'm someone who hates gender roles entirely.

Same. My mom has tons of jewelry and I have nothing of the sort. However, you can find really cheap jewelry, so I don't think it's entirely about status. Maybe some people like having an object around their neck or wrist.

That's why I say it used to be a status symbol. But now I guess there's leftover cultural fascination with it.

I don't get why people are so attached to them on this forum. I don't observe the same thing in real life.

I mean, it's understandable for people to think in terms of gender characteristics because society is so influenced by them, but this whole "men shouldn't wear bracelets" idea is pure nonsense.

Personally I think bracelets on a dude are fine although I personally don't wear them ever since my ex made me one.
