soda refers to carbonated, sugary beverages.
coke means coca cola, pepsi means pepsi cola
this is in California.

Soft drinks, in Australia - usually "carbonated soft drinks" to separate those from things like fruit juice.
Well, In summary, I'm proud of you Canadians and midwesterners calling it 'pop' like me. I have heard that surrounding Atlanta, "Coke" is what you call ~all~ cabonated beverages, cuz they have alot of manufacturing pride there.I lived in Austin,Texas for two years when I wasn't in Cleveland, and they called it "soda water" there, which was dorky to me!
I read the topic title really quickly and was thoroughly convinced it said "What Does Your Religion Call Soft Drinks?", so I was going to answer satan juice
Grew up in Bloomington, Indiana and we called it a Coke but living up North in Fort Wayne, I still call it a Coke but native Fort Wayners call it pop.
There is a site out there called popvssoda.com that has a regional break down. kind of out dated now since it was created in '02.
I use the term 'drink' or the name of a specific brand.
But all the weirdies round here call it 'soda.'
This for the most part. I've heard a few people here call it pop, but its not that common.Either soda or coke.
