Based on a discussion on another thread, I would like to know what ECA you guys have or have had.

I would prefer hearing the ones which involve you getting out of your house and interacting with people.

Why am I asking this? Because I want everyone to enjoy life and experience life and its weird to ask "What life experiences have you had?" So this is the next best thing. (And I honestly believe this correlates in with how confident you are as a person and how often you meet other people/potential dates)

Here is my list:

Ballet Class, Gymnastics Class, Dance Classes, HS Basketball Team, HS Cheerleading/Dance Team, Sorority Advisor, Participate in the AIDS Walk and Arthritis Walk and other philanthropy events (recent one was an auction for the St Jude Hospital), Debate Club (HS), Computer Club (HS), Gun Range, Car Meets, Conventions (E3 for fun, Comic-Con for work) ... I also take my dog to the dog park whenever I can and meet other dog owners, and if something else comes up... I would like to try that too.

If you dont have any, I suggest you get one since its great for you (Resume = social and leadership skills, and it builds character!)

I'm in the Freethinkers. (my university's atheist/agnostic/skeptic group sponsored by the Center For Inquiry) Other than that, nothing. I wanted to join the ACM but I have no time.

I used to be in cross country and track in high school, now I go to class for some of the day and spend most of the rest of GS, playing games, or watching T.V./movies.

High school (currently a junior): -Captain of the track team, 2 time varsity letterman (I will letter again this year) -Special Olympics volunteer -Football varsity letterman freshman and sophomore years (I didn't play this year due to my school hiring new coaches that are prone to cheating). -2008 JASC Japan Cup participant -Junior escort for graduation I also have various other awards and such that don't really qualify as an extra cirricular activity, like Youth Leadership Awards, Mile High Scholars, honor roll, et cetera.

Yeah... some of those I stopped doing now (ballet and gymnastics) but its all about time management... and trust me I can be a very lazy person! I like time to myself, sleep in, and just lull around the house.

Depends - I did it for work and I'm awesome at wording resumes.

Modeling gig at Comic-con = interacted and promoted work with clients at national conventions.

Meh, I'm not really involved in much. I'm president of HOPE club at my highschool. It's an acronym for Helping Other People Eat (kind of silly, I know. ;D) and we collect food/gifts during Christmas and give them to the needy and make Easter baskets for the cihldren at L.A Children's Hospital. It's great.. people at our school go all out donating cans during our drives and whatnot (even though most do it for extra credit.)

And thennn, last summer I volunteered 100 hours at the local hospital. Pretty fun, met some nice people. :D

That actually sounds pretty neat! Is that something you made up or is it an existing organization... I might mention it at our next meeting.

I was never an official part of any groups in HS or college, but I was kind of a handy man for many of them. If it sounded like fun and worth it, I would pitch in with my little effort. For example, I would help out the theatre group with staging their plays in HS and in college, I drove the international club flat for the school's parade, things like that, help out, but never really part of the groups activities.

I have never been extremely committed to anything really, other than following the beat of my own drum and passions.

ECA in HS can be used on your college applications and fraternity applications and even on your resume (it can sometimes be better than putting that you worked at McDonalds).

Its called having an edge over the competition. Imagine applying to a good school, like say, Harvard - where every other applicant has good grades... they look at your extra curricular activity. And its the same with the jobs - especially if you are getting a job at a different industry that you are in atm.

Maybe you're lucky and content where you are at right now - but it never hurts to have those extra bullets in your pocket just in case. Plus - as I mentioned - just the mere experience of it greatly benefits you already.

No skill or activity is not worth mentioning. Unless you are involved in something illegal and that should keep to yourself:P

+ I'm VERY active in JCL (Latin Club)
+ Concert band
+ Pep band
+ Socratic club (basically informal debate -- philosophical discussions)
+ History club
+ Girl Scouts (ha -- I've been a member since kindergarten, but I haven't been very active in the past couple of years...)

I'm very into JCL and band.

Soccer. Use to play football back in middle school, but I had to quit because it interfered too much during harvesting season.

I never got into any ECA's...generally, I tend to depise pretty much every person I meet, so it would have a foolish thing for me to do.

It really is a ton of fun and a great way to help out and get involved. && HOPE has been around in our school for a few years, I'm just continuing it's legacy. :D

Hahah! That's not our HOPE. ;D I guess we're not as unique as we thought. Maybe we should get into contact with them and make it a nationally recognized club, how cool would that be, heh. :D

Hahah you should! Maybe whoever started it in your school got it from them or vice versa (watch that be like an alum or something). It would generate good publicity for your school and the organization. Go for it!

I live in Minnesota, and I'm currently a Sophmore in high school and I've participated in Cross-Country, Debate, Speech, and Tennis. Call me a nerd, but Minnesota is the number one state for High School Debate and Speech. I finished 8th in the state this year in debate, my partner was 12th, and last year we were 16th-17th. The style/form of debate we use is Policy debate.
