The "gangs" here in El Paso are nothing compared to the gangs back in my previous home of L.A, except for the Texas Syndicate, but those guys are more of a Prison gang.
What you gotta worry about is the Narco/Traffickers and Cartels just across the border.
That stinks. thats the problem with the border.Really the only way to stop them is to militarize the border and that opens up a can of worms no one wants to even contemplate. As for TS, even though they're mostly a prison gang just like La eMe it means they pretty much run most of the latino gangs outside. That's the thing about the prison gangs like Texas Syndicate, La eMe and Aryan Brotherhood. While they may be stuck in prison it doesn't stop them from leading those outside. Also, any gang member who ends up in prison with them has no choice but to pledge allegiance to their respective gang to gain their protection.
La eMe is really only a hundred or so members but they control the 50,000 to 100,000 latino gangs who are outside by intimidation. These outside the prison gang members know that if they go to prison and they don't do what La eMe tells them then they're pretty much dead. It's one thing to be tough and fearless outside but inside they're fresh meat. Even outside they're not much safer since the prison gangs know they can contact those outside to do their dirty job for them.
So, while Mara Salvatrucha, Bloods, Crips, Latin Kings and the other major gangs are tough and scary they're more scared of those small numbers who run the prison. In the end, they will have to go there sooner or later and if they did anything to piss off those lifers inside then they're pretty much dead. The Mongols biker gang refused to pay La eMe a tax on the meth and guns they were selling and ended up in a war they couldn't win. Even the Aryan Brotherhood works with La eMe despite their hatred of minorities. Aryan Brotherhood is actually the de facto hit squad for La eMe in and out of prison.
Yeah it definitley changes in Jail. here in MA for years the jails were actually run by a gang based out of Peurto Rico. did not matter what people were on the street,in the jails you listened to them. I think they finally got tooken out,and sad to say the Jails are LESS orderly without them.
