Well, why can't it be infinite?
I've seen a lot of approaches to this question, and I'm more lost than ever on which I agree with (not that I'm informed enough to begin to have an opinion on which is right). I've heard things like the universe is flat or something, and kind of infinite, or that it loops back on top of itself and is infinite, and tons of other things....
I would say that if our universe is "inside" of something, that something is infinite, because the universe will expand forever into it (until matter is spread so thin it would seem there is no universe).
But lately I've been reading that Hawking truly believes there are tons of universes.
Space by definition is not a physical object but simply the lack of any physical properties. The same way that black isnt a color but the abscence of any color.
Given that, i think its safe to say that space could plausibly be infinite. And probably is.
y'know in allot of older videogames if you go to the far right of the screen you end up comming out the left side of the screen? i think space is basically like that.dante_123456
So you are saying that space is circular? Thats actually an entirely plausible deduction. Think of earth as a molecul of water floating inside a round balloon full of water. Something like that.

The universe is the atom of a living creature beyond us.
If that is true we're screwed >_>The universe is round. Mythbuster4ever
Ok, but if thats true then if i were to draw a stright line the edge and then past that, what would be there?

Joe Rogan the comic anyone? I love when he goes on about this stuff in his standup.
I've always wondered about space. Quantum Psychics discusses this in theory, pretty damn mind blowing just thinking about it. I've heard some say that if you were to start in one direction and keep going in a straight line, you would eventually end back up where you started, but wer're not able to comprehend it. Our brains think in linear and 3 dimensional, and somehow this theory goes way beyond. Not sure how they worked that idea out, but it was rather fascinating(Documentary on Showtime/HBO I believe.
Right now, Astronomers are still trying to figure out what black holes are all about and black matter, which is pretty freaky stuff.

There is no way that is possible.[QUOTE="Mythbuster4ever"][QUOTE="deepdreamer256"][QUOTE="Ilived"][QUOTE="Mythbuster4ever"]The universe is round. deepdreamer256

There is no way that is possible.Think outside the universe.
Ok, then whats past that... then that? Nothing physical can be infinite, dosn't that defies common sense? Your thoughts?FatAndSlow
The big question is wheter the Universe is round or infinite.

LIES! It's flat!
actually space was once thought to be flat, but that was somehow incompatible with quantum mechanics. so now, we are pretty sure that it is curved, shaped sort of like a saddle[QUOTE="scorch-62"][QUOTE="Mythbuster4ever"]The universe is round. notconspiracy

WE are in fact the ALTERNATE UNIVERSE! (Futurama)/break through

That was a joke... :| It was meant to be like how everyone once thought Earth was flat.
the answer is nothing.
a more nothingy nothing than any nothing we haven't not seen. nothing at all. no space, no matter, no time, no dimensions. nothing.
At the edges of the universe there are large deposits of anti-matter which when combined with matter it releases 100% pure energy with no left overs. An atomic bomb releases something like 0.7% of energy. Therefore when the big bang stops and starts going backwards, the anti-matter will combine with all matter in its path.
(lol what a pile of nonsense)
