Hey guys my question is about hip-hop. what exactly does it represent?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Hip hop represents life. It is truly poetry in motion. Whether it is a song about hard times, suffering, or just plain bragging about material things. Good hip hop is beautiful. And the booty shaking songs ain't that bad either.MgamerBD
No doubt.
Hip = 'a form of intelligence', Hop = a 'movement'. Hip hop repesents culture that revolves around learning and evolving. Poetry, grafitti, breakdancing, dee jaying are forms of expression used to convey a message. Real hip hop originated as a youthful expression therapy and a 'coping mechanism' for us 'have nots' and life in the ghetto and evolved into much more.
The bs 'hip -hop' you hear on current mainstream is not hip hop, but rather 'pop / rap' bs and none of those artists represent true hip hop. Turn off your radio if you want to get a taste of real hip hop and check out underground artists like The Roots, Wu-Tang, Jadakiss, Invincible etc.
hate it plain and simple.nothing but snut these days mind you i love offencive things and such but every song you can predict and just impossible to enjoy

Again, turn off the radio and search elsewhere for good music.

that there is quite negative ghostrider the radio is full of country music thats more emo than emo musicModern poetry. Problem is a lot of people don't get the message that hip-hop tries to convey and because of this a lot of artists have started to make meaningless songs that only hipsters and little kids would listen to so they can be "cool".
True Rock 'n' Roll and Hip-Hop need to be saved before their magic dies completely.
It's a way to let upper-cl@ss white kids wear their baseball hats sideways and have their pants hanging down below their arses.

By saying just this I'll take it you've seen the A Tribe Called Quest documentary. Super good by the way if you haven't.

I actually haven't seen it. Whats its name? I would definitely check it out.[QUOTE="Swanogt19"][QUOTE="pygmahia5"]its misunderstood by everyone that hates it. pygmahia5Also known as the majority of OT. yea whats with this death metal that everyone seems to love? A lot of death metal is awesome. A lot of hip hop is awesome too. Most people are just ignorant and don't listen to new music with an open mind. You have to listen to it in the way it's meant to be listened to. I used to be one of those OT metal-head hip hop-bashers but now I really enjoy rap. In fact it's the genre I listen to the most now.

That's wonderful and all, but some people just don't mend well with certain music genres. That doesn't mean they aren't open-minded, because if they were then they wouldn't have bothered trying to listen to it at all. I've listened to death metal quite a few times (mainly from my cousin who is a fan) and I just don't like it. I'm not going to be like those "cool" kids that disrespect a music genre because I'm intelligent enough to realize that there isn't anything wrong with the music, it just isn't for me.
Hip-hop is a form of talking. You talk about guns while a drumset plays in the background. It's one of the most competitive industries in the world since there is absolutely no diversity involved i.e no differentiated products. But since pretty much anyone can become "virtuoso" in hip-hop(all you need is the ability to talk and a drumset) it's near impossible to succed. So the only thing that can make you famous is luck.
I have to wonder what poetry is if all someone is saying "do the stinky leg" repeatedly is considered such (I heard this on a radio this past weekend when I went to a Dairy Queen for an ice cream cone).
I think it's a metaphor for life's meaningless and the superficial capitalist love for money.I have to wonder what poetry is if all someone is saying "do the stinky leg" repeatedly is considered such (I heard this on a radio this past weekend when I went to a Dairy Queen for an ice cream cone).

That's the great thing about hip hop,it has a wide variety of music, that song would be classified as a party/dance rap songI have to wonder what poetry is if all someone is saying "do the stinky leg" repeatedly is considered such (I heard this on a radio this past weekend when I went to a Dairy Queen for an ice cream cone).

Nights in White Satin is a dance song (slow dance that is), Gonna Make You Sweat is a dance song too, but do the stinky leg, no, I don't see it. Note, you may see it as such, but I don't.

That's what I meant by listening to music with an open mind. You might not like it, but you can still appreciate it. I was talking about how people don't appreciate certain genres, but I guess I wasn't very direct in saying so.Please Log In to post.
