because....
because I have no idea, lol I dont even own a cell phone :P
Who knows maybe because it goes with their suit and tie?
it was good a long time ago and had certain features other phones didnt have at the time which appealed to business type of ppl. But now theres nothing special about it.
I think it has to do with email. Back in the day, it was the phone to have for email, and a fair amount of its market share now may have to do with established reputation and customer user base.
Marketing to business orientated people and enjoy a early consumer base with them. While their biggest competitor the Iphone has been maketed to the general population and is more viewed now as an entertainment device rather then someone of a business background would use.
[QUOTE="funsohng"]I really don't see why ANYONE would want it even over iPhone.mems_1224easier to text on plus some companies only let their employees use blackberries easier to text? There are keyboard phones that are way better than Blackberry for that. Blackberry keyboards are way too small even for me. But I do see it's easier to text than iPhone (but I want an iPhone because I don't think Blackberry supports Korean)
A lot of companies may not use AT&T for their provider, so Blackberry was the best choice. It was the most popular smartphone for a while, and I know some older business men and women just like them because it is familiar to them. Some other comments I've heard are that some people just don't like touch screens(again it's usually older people).
Blackberry has the best support for Microsoft Exchange Server compared to any other phone. That's why its popular with businessmen. If you dont know what that means, then a Blackberry offers very little that any other phone can do.
Blackberry Enterprise Server add-ons for Microsoft Exchange Server allows for push notification for e-mail, calenders, scheduling, and documents. Most phones todays do not have push notification for these features or are tied to a specific application. The entire Blackberry OS is built around these (to an extent). Most phones, without push notifcation, have to rely on regularly polling and checking to see if theres a new e-mail or change in schedules or contact information. This can mean that your information may be out-of-date until the next time your phone checks for the data. With push notification the instant that email is sent, a document is updated, or a meeting is created, all user are simultenously notified. Any and all business information is entirely up to date and in sync with everyone else. That's Exchange Server's job. Blackberry's play nice with Exchange Server.
EDIT: existing phones are getting better with adding push notification and Echange Server compatibility, but thats often only for specific applications which may or may not cover all of the functionalities that a business is looking for. An app will never compare to the tight intergration it has at an OS level.
Having said all that, im an Android user and i love my HTC Incredible. I'm never going to bother with a BB because none of its main selling points have any interest or relevency to me.
BlackBerry is the best smartphone for anyone who wants to use their smartphone for business purposes:
-BBM
-Sending and receiving emails is very easy
-The apps work well, but you don't need many
-The setup is very easy, especially to access things to need
Yes, iPhone and Android phones can be used as business phones, but the fact that the iPhone, and the majority of Android phones don't have a normal keyboard makes it annoying to type. Also, email setup is amazing on the BlackBerry.
By the way, I have an Android phone.
Email compatibility and synchronization with those email services for meetings, scheduling, etc. are the main and most crucial things to a businessman. For example, my father who works in an office constantly uses his blackberry to double check when meetings are, urgent emails, etc.
Although, I'm not sure about the iphone 4, maybe they made it more compatible?
Not with Swype... Swype is far better than a lot of physical keyboards.because touchscreen are worthless for typing anything of significant length.

I don't know about appealing but that thing is a worst nightmare for employee. If employer lends you that abomination then they expect you to be 24/7 ready to respond emails. No more reason like, "Hey, I'm not in front of computer now" or "I'm on vacation/on date/somewhere".
I am one of those old fogey businessmen type.
Our firm sticks with BB because of the security and technology around email and calendar updates. There is an excellent post above about the server side and pushing updates. This combined with secure email. And it has to fit seemlessly 100% of the time with the $millions invested in our corporate systems/network etc. Everything else is optional/nice to have.
I get 200+ emails a day. My secretary is constantly rearranging my schedule on the fly. Many days I am hardly in my actual office. I don't care about texting, 90% of other smartphone features, etc. I need real time updates on email and schedule. I barely even use the phone.
Because of it design and the Keypads?I just got a BlackBerry and I love it, but I don't see why Businessmen favor it over other smartphones so much.

It has one amazing feature that most smartphones (including the iPhone IIRC, but don't quote me on it) don't, rather than updating the email server every 10-15 minutes, it updates about every 10-30 seconds and has almost on the spot emails, that's why I love it.MythomniacIt's called Push email.. versus pull.. and all major smartphone OS's have push email now.
