What is rap and why do you think it was created? Was it created in order for people to throw around the 'n-word' or was it developed in order to do something else for the people it was trying to reach? If there was one song you could give in order to represent what you believe rap to be what would it be?

The B*******t by Jeru the Damaja, would be my pick.

To give the ghetto what they needed, an idol to look up to and lemons.

Rap used to be artistic expression emanating from low income hyper urban areas, now its a commodity. It was created by people would wanted to express themselves musically but had no access to traditional instruments, now its created by highly trained producers with tons of equipment.

rap like any other genre can be really good or terribly bad, if you just listen to what the massess are hearing, it more than likely is crap in any genre. And just like any genre there are some mainstream acts that are good, but most good artists will need some digging to find.

Here would be my pick for someone with rap virgin ears- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjxtRehIz2Y

Nope, it's still the same.

I still see people sagging skinny jeans. Rappers still trying to palatable as possible. Still using obvious indistinguishable pop song samples, lil wayne is still skateboarding, and Drake is still considered a real rapper.

Nope not yet. But even then you can grasp what Kendrick was saying. Big Sean was freaking weak though on there. Laughable how like a week ago he said he murders everyone on features or people features on his songs. Yeah, ok.

Oh yeah his verse is f*cking great but it just bugs me how like 1/4 of it is edited.

Big Sean is the most mediocre rapper ever

Yes. Whoever has the best equipment or the most expensive gear is 'the most G' nowadays. The struggle continues just as much today as it did 20 years ago yet the youth has fallen victim to the glamour.

Youth will always be susceptible, hip hop has fallen victim to the music industry. There is still and always will be great music in the underground.

Landon Wordswell. Cool guy. I met him a couple weeks ago when he came through my town for a tiny show in a hole in the wall venue. The second verse, which I think sounds a lot like real early Eminem, is a guy called Sammy Faze.

Basically. If you want good music, probably in any genre, you have to do some digging and searching. Thankfully its a lot easier to do that these days with the internet. Problem is now its more scarce than ever

Like most mainstream genres of music, there are two major parts: the underground culture of the genre that still holds to the original trappings and extends it with new ideas and the expensive, shiny veneer plastered on to make the genre mainstream enough to sell to the general public.
