What is rap and why do you think it was created? Was it created in order for people to throw around the 'n-word' or was it developed in order to do something else for the people it was trying to reach? If there was one song you could give in order to represent what you believe rap to be what would it be?

The B*******t by Jeru the Damaja, would be my pick.

Really, most of the stuff from Ice Cube is politically oriented, talks about real stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-QFr-vqCPY BTW. I think Tupac is overrated, just my 2 cents.

I also like the old Tech N9ne but don`t like his stuff for the past 2-3 years. Last great album was KOD. When Tech stopped making music that was unique to him, I switched genres to electronica, mainly D&B and dubstep (old school and chillstep).

I only paid attention to Tech N9ne;s Caribou Lou song until now. His other stuff sounds great.

*Sounds good I should say. iTunes wont give me authorization to buy his other songs for some reason.

40 Oz. by D12

It deviates from the point of this thread but it certainly embodies the opposite. Just wanted to mention the opposite.

people have preferences and rap appeals to many people the way justin beiber appeals to many teenage girls.

I dont like either of them but I can see that it has its purpose.

You should give it a chance. Rap means "rhythm and poetry" for a reason.

It's a form of expression just like any other genre. Granted, some of the music sucks and is made mostly for profit, but just about every genre has those types (ex. Nickelback).

[QUOTE="MgamerBD"][QUOTE="EagleEyedOne"] Just pick one of those that embodies hip hop the best.EagleEyedOne
Tupac

Why do you think Tupac embodies hip hop?

Because that's why. Hahaha. I actually agree that Tupac isn't as good as a lot of people seem to give him credit for. I don't really listen to him all that much. But I absolutely love this song.

Music is music but the industry created and labeled sounds of music into genres to make selling the selection of music easier for consumers.
