What is the alternate ending to the movie "Watchmen"?

I forgot to watch it before returning it to my friend so could someone give me a summary of everything that happened? Thanks!

There was an alternate ending to the movie? I did not realize this but I will tell you I did not like how it was portrayed in the theatrical edition. The movie did an excellent job covering the graphic novel for much of the film ... until the ending.

[spoiler] I liked the movie's ending more than the book's. It's easier to swallow mankind uniting against Doctor Manhattan than banding together to stop aliens. Probably because Manhattan was there the whole time and aliens just showed up in the end. [/spoiler]

Honestly, I thought the ending to the movie was better. It was far less random and made just as much (if not more) sense.
