id say the Katana.
The Broadsword and Dao look kinda heavy and sluggish.
The Katana, is sleek, sharp and light,
Broadsword = heaviest, so more likely to kill rather than injure.
Katana = Fastest and sharpest. Best if the swordsman is skilled I guess?
Dao = curved broadsword...
I'm going to go with Katana, though who could say, as someone said it matter whos wielding the sword to what they are capable of.
A person with a Katana would lose against someone with a broadsword I thinkbecause broadswords are accompanied all to often with a shield and samurai as far as I know in real life fight with mostly downward strikes, so if you blocked that first strike you could get them relatively easy in the area left open.
I'm not really familiar with how someone would fight with a Dao though..
Similar to a broadsword, maybe? Or do they twirl in circles and stuff =o lol
Excuse me if all mystatements are wrong btw, but if they are, correct me.
Katanas... they are awesome... and they are used by ninjas...

Wouldn't a wakizashi be more fitting for a ninja?
If you take out factors like individual soldier skill, armor and various other variables then my vote would be with the broadsword since that includes the claymore. Both the claymore and katana are perfected weapons of death, but this time I will side with the claymore(broadsword).
Here is a good demonstration video.link
Its not really known though they might have Wiki Quote: "Some believe ninja used special short swords called Ninjatō, or shinobigatana.[citation needed] Ninjatō are smaller than katana but larger than wakizashi. The Ninjatō was often more of a utilitarian tool than a weapon, not having the complex heat treatment of a usual weapon, and a straight blade. It should be noted there have been no actual Ninjato found, and their existence is purely speculative. In all probability, ninja used the standard swords of the time. Another version of the ninja sword was the shikoro ken (saw sword). The shikoro ken was said to be used to gain entry into buildings, and could also have a double use by cutting (or slashing in this case) opponents."Katanas... they are awesome... and they are used by ninjas...

Katanas are used by the samurai.
Katanas are best because they can slice through the other two swords anyway.

I doubt it. Granted a Katana is sharp as a scalpel, It'd have trouble slashing through steel. Additionally a Katana is thinner then a Broadsword who, as someone mentioned, was more of a large, somewhat sharp, steel club and if tried to slash the broadsword it would either do very minimal damage or even break due to the differents in mass.[QUOTE="Spindoc_SEI"][QUOTE="KHfanboy2"]

Indeed. Unfortunately, counter to pop-cultural expectations, katanas are not light-sabers. Let's also not forget that for all their skill...samurai were generally not the most physically imposing of warriors. If you go to a museum and check out samurai armour, it's hard not to be surprised by how small it usually is[QUOTE="Fandangle"]Wise words right here. Since when did everything depend on the person holding the weapon? If a guy with a gun goes against some dude with crappy bow and arrows, no amount of skill is going to make a difference, in a realistic situation. They are all the same - it is the person who holds them that makes the difference

The katana wins, I have one, it's not to different from the one you have there, it's just a little more simple.

That depends on 1) who is wielding them, an amateur or master; 2) what type of combat you are faced with, katana excel at slashing, while the broadsword excels at both slashing and stabbing; 3) what type of armour you are up against, leather armour is easy to cut, while chain and/or plate mail isn't and; 4) what kind of weapon you prefer.
I myself have always been a fan of polearms. Halberds and naginata to be precise.
well see...the broadsword actually usually wasn't very sharp, nor very good at cutting things. It was just huge and heavy, so half the time it was a bludgeoning instrument. If you were on horseback or whatever and swung at another guy's neck, you'd have a better chance of breaking his neck than cutting his head off.Paladin_Kingthis was the point of these swords as most soldiers were covered in either chain mail or plate mail which is extemely hard to cut through especially if they have a heavy wooden shield, so the best tactic would be to break their arms or shatter their kneecaps

I think you're underestimating how effective a skilled archer can be, especially if they are not initially visible to each other. Guns are pretty useless weapons when you don't know how to shoot with accuracy, especially against a moving target.
