Here's my question to you since you seem to be the one with the most experience in this matter. At my IT school they offer programs for web designers including learning everything there is to know about Flash, Dreamweaver, basically all of CS3. What the hell is the point of going to college to get a degree in Media Studies with a focus in web design when I can get all of these certs for web design? Also you can get other tech certifications that really can help you out and the place even helps you find entry level jobs after you get your first certification. While college seems to drain your money for four years, and the stuff you learn at times seems really pointless and a waste of time. I mean I know having a college degree is said to be important but I ask you who is more qualified for a job. A guy who has just gotten by in college with a 2.5 GPA and has some degree in psychology or sociology or a guy who has passed all of these tech certifications, is younger and already has job experience?

I don't really know. I go to a tech school also, and I've kinda learned that the trades you learn there are priceless. They're always needed, and from what I've seen your rarely out of work. Unlike someone who got a Bachelors in Communications, someone with a trade in say, Construction or Masonry is in high demand and can frequently move from job to job. How many places need people with "communications" degrees?

There's really not any point to college. Except to get a piece of paper after 4+ YEARS of working your butt off.

Well for one with a degree you have an internationally recognized qualification for one. Second you learn the concepts behind it not just how to do it, so you have a better grounding and are set up for solving more complex problems. Most college students will also get practical work experience or internships too so they will know the industry they are going into. Admittedly some degrees are more useful than others but all have their place and they will tend to open up more career paths and allow your promotion prospects to increase.

The pursuit of higher education does appeal to some people. If you don't like it, some sort of trade school or apprenticeship may be the better way to go.

But really you do not have to work your but off constantly like you do with a certification. I mean you have an ENTIRE SEMESTER for a couple of classes versus certifications which gives you a lot more information in a much shorter amount of time and then gives you an actual paying job to gain experience. And I mean I guess it really depends on the degree you get but really in college you can certainly pass by just attending classes and listening. I had a year of it and I was passing with minimal work. Versus the certification it really challenges you to work hard.

A peice of paper that gives you a huge advantage over people that don't have that peice of paper.

not only that college isnt just about the education. It is a whole lot of fun.

If you are in construction without a college degree. Your boss is probably the guy with a college degree, and he makes more money than you do.

It has always been a big thing to people since the beginning of humanity. Sex in today's culture is incredibly timid compared to, for example, the ancient Egyptians and ancient Greeks.

If you do it with someone you like and it's passionate, then it's not sad. ''Scoring'' or whatever you wanna call it, could seem pretty sad in some people's eyes.

By the way, I'm feeling more passionate about this subject when looking at your avatar. Do you feel the same when looking at mine? I'm telling you, this Carth Onasi avatar can drive the girls nuts here on Gamespot.

If there are people there who aren't nerds, then I would say yes. A college full of nerds is hard to find.

College's are usually pretty diverse, I'm sure the nerds would be able to manage just fine.

You should see some of the parties that we throw. You don't have to be a drunk ass frat boy to have fun (although the drunk part seems to happen often enough) I think you might be confusing nerds with dweebs or dorks or something. Nerds are just smart mother ****ers. Do you know how to make flash powder? I do:D

as one of my friends mom puts it. All college does is pretty much prove that you can jump through loopholes and work your ass off. not an exact quote but pretty much it. She has a degree and is a teacher if that matters

Yeah only if you want to study something like the TC wants (learn how to use 2-3 programs), but to learn in depth the subject u want nothing can substitute college.
