What is wrong with Disney?

Ok, Disney, what happened to you? Where has all the stuff your fans loved, like Mickey Mouse gone to? Why do you overpromote bad singers and even badder boy bands? Why are you trying to make High School Musical the next Citizen Kane? What is this Phineas and Ferb, Zack and Cody, and Jonas crap? Can anyone tell me what's wrong with Disney?

This is probably the only audience that disney is getting these days. However disney pixar is still a huge hit in terms of the quality of their movies. All of the movies made by disney pixar have reached critical acclaim and are very entertaining to watch. Just dont mistake disney pixar with the awful disney because they are two very different things and two very different companies.

Disney has to change their shows to keep with the times.. remember they aren't targeting you, they are targeting kids. Either way they are still fine.

This is how it works: Every year, Japan makes a Sentai series. Disney takes all the action footage and converts it to Power Rangers. However, in 2009, Disney broke the chain, maybe due to the heavy Asian influences of Samurai Sentai.

Disney is the same as it always has been. The whole fantasy thing, pop singers, appealing to the younger audiences and all, but with a different generation. Cartoonetwork, that went down hill for sure. They went from Swat Kats, Xtreme Sharks, Looney Tunes, Toonami Block to Total Drama Island, 6teen, Stoked, Chowder, Destroy Build Desroy, etc.

Disney got scared when they almost lost Mickey due to copyright expiration. They managed to change the law (go figure) and get it extended, but I think they're trying to take the brand away from the Mouse before it really does expire. They want to 'disassociate', so to speak.

Why? Because once Mickey is in the public domain, anyone can use him to promote anything they want.

Not exactly. When it comes to animated features they were pretty great until Fantasia 2000, after that movie only one or two animations are above average. The Disney Channel is what is wrong with Disney nowadays, Walt himself would always put his artistic integrity above everything else, including money, something that was clear ever since he decided to release the fantastic Snow White even though all signs pointed him towards failure. The Disney Channel, that specific department of the huge empire that is now The Disney Company, lacks Walt's philosophy.

There isn't anything artistic or inspirational about it, just a bunch of products made to make quick and easy bucks out of a fanbase that will take anything that has the Disney label in it.

I abhor Disney. Not just their new stuff. I always hated their movies, TV shows, etc. The only they have going for them is Pixar. And even then, Pixar makes the movies, and Disney gets the money. I say Pixar should go independent.goth_bacon

I'm sure Disney made a lot of junk throughout their entire existence. It's just they made so much that there were a lot of gems that really stood out, and that's what we remember and compare them to. If I remember correctly, Disney was struggling immensely in the film industry both financially and critically until about 1989, when The Little Mermaid came out.

Yes, what happened to all the shows you like? I am sure if you showed a lot of them to the younger generation they will say it sucks. Yeah times change, nothing is wrong with disney, you grew up. What? Weird. I still enjoy some of there stuff, yeah I watch the Suite Life (Not the new one) from time to time. Why because you all act like the rest of television is any better. Everything is boring and repetitive. Tv sucks

I doubt anyone in the median age range of this forum could ever be all that into Disney channel, we're just not the audience they have in mind. I'm sure we where all guilty of overglorifying crappy TV shows and pop bands in our youth, and actually Phineas and Ferb isn't all that bad considering some of the other crap on the station.

Phineas and Ferb is good actually. the only good thing they have made ina LONG time.

why WOULDN'T disney promote someone like hannah montana, she's a marketing dream. Her concerts sell out in like 5 minutes, she brings in millions for disney. Do you think the management care at disney that some people don't like her when there's millions who do.

Just because this practice is common place and can make millions for the respective companies doesn't mean everyone has to like it. In marketing, the product has to be considered "good" to begin with for its target with if it is ever going to get anywhere. I am sure many of the people here who bash Hannah Montana have never seen it from the perspective it was intended for. But beyond that, I think it's the practice of mass marketing on behalf of Disney were the images of the brand or series are flooded into every possible channel of mainstream communications imaginable. This of course is nothing inherently bad, and many of us have grown up exposed to this kind of a thing. But it's not something has to agree with. You're right it's not going to stop Disney in any way, shape or form though.
