Colonist on another world. The Moon or Mars or something.
Simple life, high tech, get to see space and shit. Plus, I am so ready to get the Hell off this idiot rock.
colonizing mars would likely be fucking awful.
Yup. And a one-way suicide trip. Like literally; I don't mean "overwhelming odds" suicide trip, I mean you will go there and you will die there...likely sooner than later.
With that said, there's actually a waitlist at NASA's JPL. And it's kind of funny-sad because you have people with spouses and kids signing up for this suicide trip to Mars because it seems so romantic and compelling to them.
I am all for colonizing Mars (and the Moon and anything else) but I certainly would not want to be the first people there.

i'm assuming they'd have to have a program to rotate people out quickly so the radiation doesn't kill them quicker. so maybe you do a few years, come home, be famous for a while and die of leukemia at 50.

No rotation, only replacement.
It's more like: go to Mars, work while you can, die, be remembered, then replaced.
No plan to bring them home yet.
@mrbojangles25: they all were, yeah. I lucked out that week with lots of rain to keep it nice and clean. Normally it's coated in bugs in the summer.
Realistically? Translating and proofreading. I don't need much to live on and I'd enjoy the variety.
Much less realistically, I'd like to work on education or IP reform proposals.
Totally unrealistically: run a little farm somewhere in Spain or Canada.
