Meh, no need for an iPod. A generic Sony Walkman will do just fine. Besides, it's not as if I even know 500 songs... :|
Ah, here's a pic:
Cowon D2 and Sansa Clip for me. Those two are actually some of the best mp3 players out there.

Sound quality wise, the itouch has okay quality but if you want to improve get a good pair of headphones like sennheisers or grado labs. And there are tons of mp3 players that beat the sound quality of apple products even without a good pair of headphones. But in the end, headphones make a huge improvement.
i have a sansa view. i don't have a favorite MP3 player as i like to listen to CDs. they are just better format for listening to music. MP3 are compressed while .wav aren't.tell me this go listen to a mp3 of a song then play it through a CD (same song) tell me what u think was better. pm me as i hate to look for me getting quoted.iam2green
The original CD will obviously sound better. If you burn an mp3 to a CD the ripper makes a temporary WAV form of the mp3 and writes it to the CD. Compressing then decompressing files over again takes away from the sound quality. I prefer the Sansa Clip and Fuze because they support FLAC, a lossless audio codec that sounds exactly the same as an actual CD.
CD = Lossless
WAV = Lossless
FLAC = Lossless
MP3 = Lossy(because of the compression)

Or even listen to vinyl and compare the difference between analog and digital music formats.

I just use the iPhone. It serves its purpose remarkably well. Before that I used the PSP, and also found it quite acceptable.
I have a Zune, black 80GB. I've always hated iPods and don't get how they's so popular. The Zune is amazing.

The Ipod 2G is an exception to Apples other rubbish players.
As much as I would normally hate iPods and Apple, for that matter, I have to admit that I really can't live without an iPod.
I hated the iPod itself. I went through 3. All broke.I have a Zune because I absolutely hate iTunes.

apple needs to stop riding their monopoly and actually incorporate some new features. its getting silly. then DEFINATELY need to allow the FLAC , WAV and OGG formats. a fm radio isnt as necisary but is easy to do and for apple to not have done it yet is truely frustrating.. no fm radio.. but the new nano can talk to you.. ok.. lets get some REAL features and not silly gimics just to sell units. im seriously thinking of rockboxing my ipod classic.nimatoad2000Not to mention Apple's players uses the weakest internal amps in the mainstream player market. With the exception with the Ipod 2G which actually has some testosterone.

Awesome. (GO ZUNE!!)
My favorite is admittedly the iTouch/Phone, but I refuse to buy Apple producuts. I own a Zune 120GB (I love it) but the next thing I get I want it to be a more universal media player (and smaller!). Hopefully Microsoft will play catchup and release something cool for their next gen Zune.
