are you going to use it for teaching or for what?

I plan on focusing on the Middle East. I also plan on taking a few cultural anthropology courses to supplement that. I could work with the government, as well.

Working for the government aint a bad job, my best friend he works for the state and says it pays nice and has good benefits.

And it should have pretty good job security.

[QUOTE="Dark__Link"]I'm an aerospace engineering major.mindbender244

If you don't mind me asking, What kind of job opportunities do you have? And Where are you from? I'm considering Aerospace or Electrical Engineering.

I'm from Connecticut, going to school in New York. Since I'm a freshman, I only know what I've been told about job opportunities, but so far it seems like very few aeros get jobs in that particular industry. If you really want to work in it, moving to FL/TX/WA is almost a must. However, the curriculum of aero finds uses in a lot of other applications. One of my professors, for example, has a job at a large air conditioning corporation, putting to use his knowledge of computational fluid dynamics. Personally, I'd like to work for a defense contractor like Lockheed.

Software Engineering. I might get a PhD in comp science. Not sure how useful it would be, though. I'm still thinking about it.DeeJayInphinity

From what I've heard, it's about the most useless thing in the world. Most companies stop caring at BA in Comp Sci.

Depends on where he wants to work. If he's getting it to make games, yes it's worthless. If he wants to work for the government (FBI, CIA, etc) or a place like Microsoft, it will be nice to have.

GIS

I know you are wondering that in world GIS is. stands for Geographic Information Systems. You know google maps, google earth, mapquest, in car navigation system, GPS's, any map you see on the weather channel. That all falls under the GIS category as well as many other things. like aerial photography and geography based statistics. (like where are the most trees located at in a particular area).

Basically GIS is just a fancy way of saying a digtial map maker.

Not so much Microsoft, but for the government, I guess.

I only know of one person at Microsoft who got a PhD in Computer Science. It's rarely needed.

It would only be useful if I decided to teach the subject at a uni, right? Well thanks for the input guys.

Well, if you're going to teach at all, you'll always be going to school.

But yeah, being a teacher, the more education you have, the better.
