I have herd of glam folk thanks to Vince Noir.

As for music I listen to a wide variety, but my go to is Jungle/Drum N Bass.

I don't think that being creative and being about real life are mutually exclusive.

I think that they can try to have more sonic variety and still use the same real-life lyrical themes.

It's just that whenever I hear country these days, the songs sound so damn similar.

However, I adore this song:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvsmRuRp4cM

Don't know if that's pure country though.

GreySeal9

*shudders* That's not country at all. Rascal flatts unfortunatly has gone the way Sugarland has gone with this bubblegum rock crap.

It is rather poppy, but I don't see how it is crap.

It has an excellent chorus and catches my ear in a way that most country fails to.

Ok but it's still not country in any way, shape or form. Taylor Swift is slowly ruining the genre where now country has to sound like the Jonas Bros or Lady Gaga.

There's really country out there that sounds like Lady Gaga?

Also, you wouldn't even call the Rascal Flatt's song a country/pop rock hybrid?

 Not exactly. I just mean they have that kind of funky, bubblegum pop-rock sound. Or in Taylor Swifts case is just generic teen girl pop. Their older stuff is country but what you linked, and their current stuff I would not call country at all.

I'd consider that more folk but it's more country than Rascal Flatts is now.

The only genres I dislike are metal and dupstep, though some posters here have posted some pretty decent melodic "metal" songs.

GreySeal9

One of my current favourites. Link

I don't know that I care his voice all that much, but I do like the instumental and the songwriting is pretty good.

I think he's got one of those voices that just takes getting use to......which is weird when I think about it......I didn't care much for it at first.......but now I personally think he has one of the best voices out of the bands I listen to :P

Good music. Genres are generally irrelevant to me as long as there's good music involved. The only genre I have yet to find anything I enjoy is country. The twangy guitar, whiny vocals, and simplistic songwriting generally give me a pounding headache.

I really can't get into that kind of stuff, but since you seem to be knowledgable about country, what attibrutes do you think a song has to have to be country?

It's hard to say exactly what it has to have but easier to say what it shouldn't have such as rockin' electric guitars, poppy lyrics etc. Pretty much compare what I linked to rascal flatts or taylor swift and you'll have a decent comparison. It's got to at least have some twang to it.

I love Easton Corbin. That whole album is fantastic.

Just curious, what do you think about Brad Paisley, Josh Turner, and Luke Bryan?

I'm varied I listen to alot of music that is associated with alot of different genres. I suppose Rock as Beatles is my favorite band. But I like Country, Classic Rock, some new rock, Indie-rock, Electro, Jazz, Instumental, all sorts.
