If you want something useful and not too hard, go for french. However, chinese might be another great option.

I regret I didnt learn Chinese or Japanese during the 80's.... I think it's useless. Now those language are the most common especially in bussiness and technology. Damn... now it's too late ... my head is like a brick that is hard to penetrate, especially chinese language are the hardest to understand especially the symbolic character and the "Tone" that have to master to get it the right meaning. If you have a kid, send them to chinese class. It will be much easier. Most european language are less useless except for spanish or french.

If you want to learn a useful language, learn either Arabic, Hindi, or Mandarin.

French or Spanish are good choices. They sound really nice and can be spoken all over the world.

Also, once you learn one romance language, if you want to learn another it will come much quicker thanks to their similarities.

hm...useful depends on what jobs u want in the future and where u wanna travel... id say go with my country sweden (but come in the summer...lol) (that way u learn to understand norweigan and danish - well atleast written danish...and finnish people know some swedish too) that said...these countries are all good at english, so if ure not planning on living in any of these countries then maybe its not so useful i dunno personally id go with portuguese for my own very reasons its always latin talk on language ot, why is that??? do alot of americans study it? i mean i did study it for a year before i traded it off for a more useful german latin is sure good to get a grasp on especially italian, spanish, portuguese, french...but u might as well study spanish and u get a grasp of portuguese and italian etc and its a dead language - its very very ugly to speak it so i really dont see the whole latin appeal - i remember that on school day for younger students my lil latin class actually warned them from taking it so there were no class the next year

Gaga adores French. Gaga recommends that you learn French.
