Mine just look cool imo.
I've trained with knives like these. Or butterfly 'swords' I think in English. (They're more knives than swords really.) I love them. Great design, love their weight, love their length, love the look of the broad blade. They look different, more cute than dangerous, they work. And dual wield XD Just cool. I like that you can conceal them reasonably well considering their size.
Yeah they're from the wingchun style when we started using knives and bo. If you ask me the coolest martial arts around is tae kwon do or pentjak silat, but I fell into love with the ugly style of WC at the time because I knew people who were unbelievably good at sparring using WC even with my dad who was very impressed with the leg work of the style. My WC sifu was trained a little in PS so that was pretty cool. One time he fought me while remaining mostly seated. They're all fantastic styles. My dad trained TKD during his youth and not the tournament style but the 'let's harden our legs against this tree' style. We have both stopped training ages ago. I found out I really don't like hurting people or getting hurt, to the point that it started to interfere with my training. After some falling outs with some of my fellow students I eventually just quit.
I still miss it a lot, but I also know it's not for me.
