I've just been thinking about this question today. Wondering if actors are happy with their lives. Because when you see them on interviews they seem so cheery and happy, but when you see them they are always getting bothered by people, annoyed, and I can see why. A lot of actors turn to drugs and OD, many famous actors have died this way. So I just question if they are really happy. Are any of them happy, maybe just a small percentage?

Then i was thinking about me. What makes me happy. I love playing sports and just doing things in life. But I also like video games, and then I just wonder why. Why do video games make me happy, because when I think about it, they shouldn't. I know they are fun, but am I really happy? It just seems like a big waste of time... I use so much money on video games just to keep me from being bored... I could be doing other things, but this is just one hobby that is so easy and time consuming. And I know it's good to have hobbies, but this one just seems like such a waste.

I will either grow out of video games when I start working a career, or not have enough time for them. So when I think about the future of myself with video games it doesn't seem good. Which kind of sucks. I like experiencing all these different stories and games, but in the future I will probably forget about so many of them.

And I turn to.. what will make me happy... in the future? The only thing I can think of is hopefully getting a good job that I will love. That way I can do something that is fun, and worth while...

So what makes you happy, is the thing that makes you happy worth it? I know many of you play video games. So what do you think about that in this sense?

Well, I wouldn't consider education or video games necessities. I just enjoy learning about new cultures, religions etc.. When ever I get a friend of a different ethnicity I like to eat their foods :P For example. I have a friend that's Vietnamese and I totally had to ask her to make me some exotic Asian foods :P

They've always made me very content with the moment, not caring, and not caring about not caring. If they made me, or anyone truly happy, where would the challenge in life go?

Education is a necessity. If you were a slave, would you not consider freedom a necessity and thus deserve it? It is no different Until one becomes educated, they are slaves to propaganda and ignorance.

The question of: "Is my hobby a waste?" can apply to countless of things. Take people who shoot guns for example. They spend a lot of money on bullets that just end up on the ground. What's worthwhile in that? Some may say (especially during the Cold War) "I'm practicing shooting in case the Russians (or whatever enemy) invades." Right. And I'm practicing on winning the lottery. [The list can go on too: dirt biking is a waste of time, soccer, football, photography] The only way the above would not be a waste of time is if you became some kind of professional at it and got paid for it. But those are far and few between. And that instance can also be applied to video games in that there are definitely people who play video games as a sort of research/observation for their developer or publisher employer. Lastly, you get to reap trophies and gamer points as you play games which as far as I can tell will not disappear as they are great motivators to continue to buy games. If you dirtbike as a hobby and not enter any tournaments you aren't getting anything to show for your time having fun, maybe some broken bones!

I'm all for hobbies of whatever kind As long as they don't infringe upon another human being's rights. But, I do believe that no matter what hobby you enjoy, enjoy it moderately. And I believe that everyone should have enough education to think critically and they should be constantly aware of what's going on in the world.

Unless you have some hardcore Orwellian 1984 beliefs; read a recent issue of The Economist: "The World in 2012". I learn a lot from that magazine. Especially that issue. It's geared as an elitist magazine, but if that doesn't bother you pick it up if you haven't heard of it already.

I'm thinking of majoring in the same. You know its a special magazine when its over $100 subscription for 12 issues XD. Although it is a British magazine which could explain the price, but I doubt it. They charge that much cause the people they cater to can afford it.

If you're going to major in economics,

I recommend anything by Michael Lewis

I'd start off with The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine

you might also like The Road to Serfdom By F.A Hayek

Took economics last year :p

I'm new so sorry for reposting all these quotes, I don't know how to single one out yet. I'll check that out. For investing purposes I have been pre-gaming for economics by reading Security Analysis by Benjamin Graham. Its as big as the bible, then again it is considered the bible of investing.

Also I was mistaken. It's about $125 for a WEEKLY subscription. Which is actually a pretty good value considering the quality of information.

I would also have to say learning makes me happy. Above all else. And then my awareness of how much I have and how lucky I am. Living in the place I live, the opportunities I have as a young person and knowing that I have a family that is behind me no matter what.

Socializing.

Playing video games with certain people (or simply playing Quake or Fortress Forever).

My wonderful friends.

Learning. I believe learning has intrinsic value, and I hope to learn something new each day of my life. I'm one of those rare few students, it seems like, that flippin' *loves* to learn.

^ Related to that, philosophy and deep literature.

Beautiful music. Especially classical. Playing this right now

I love seeing people grow in their relationship with Jesus. For example, tonight was fantastic and I am in an exceptionally excited mood because of it. Why might this be? Earlier I was invited to a bar by some co-workers who are not Christians themselves. The vast majority of the night was a conversation about what it means to follow Jesus and be in need of Jesus. They were extremely inquisitive and the conversation was extremely productive in helping them understand the gospel of Jesus Christ. I love hanging out with people who are spiritually curious.

Well lately not a whole lot. I was actually feeling really depressed for a couple weeks in January because it was just one bad thing after another that was happening to me. Since just around the end of January, I've been interested in this really pretty girl who is in a couple of my classes and who I talk to almost everyday after school. Usually I would be hating school around a time like this for me, but this girl makes me really happy just to talk to her. Video games still make me happy (to a certain extent) but they are more of just entertainment. But this girl actually helped me get happier once February started.
