For me it was the mist! I thought oh they'll find away to stop it but instead it ended so messed up that I walked out depressed :p

It takes place in Los Angeles during the Winter Solstice. A guy and his buddy save a hottie from a domestic dispute and the protagonist falls for her. It turns out the girl and the buddy were all part of a satanic cult and the protagonist is supposed to be the human sacrifice.

Near the end, the protagonist is about to be butchered and a couple of cops were running towards the sacrifice scene. I kept thinking the protagonist would be rescued. It turned out the cops were devil worshipers too. Then, the guy's buddy turned out to be the high priest of the ritual and plunges the knife.

I don't think he did. I recall putting the subtitles on and it described a gunfight going on in the background. I assumed he got killed. Has it been confirfmed that he survived?

Actually according to IMDb if youturn up the volume, you can hear Police shouting at Mr. Pink and some gunshots with Mr. Pink saying he got shot and surrendered.

I remember now. The movie is Spellbinder. The "best friend" and high priest was the same guy who played "Slider" in Top Gun.

Yeah, it was pretty shocking as in "Ugh! Was that the ending?! I am speechless, I want my money back!".

id read the book to shutter island and thought the twist was a lot better, also dont get why they changed the last sentence by di caprio addinga throw away line and changed the entire ending

i liked tinker, tailer, soldier, spy's twist, not dramatic but i was clueless to the answer that was right in front of me

Forgot about The usual Suspects and Oldboy. Shutyer Island had a shocking twist but it didn't occur near enough to the film's conclusion for me to consider it an ending IIRC.
