This year alot of movies have surprised me, both in good ways and bad. The five most pleasent surprises this year were the films JCVD, Waltz with Bashir, Let the right one in, Che, and In Bruges. JCVD surprised me by how good it was, I was never a fan of Van Damme but in this film he shows that he is a very good and at times a great actor. Waltz with bashir surprised me because it did so much with its animated format, it was part war film and part documentary, and it made me sympathize with animated characters which is something I rarely do. Let the right one in, as you guys know by now, surprised me because it came out of nowhere and showed that a vampire film could still be made in a unique and emotional way. Che surprised me because it was just much better than I expected, Benicio Del toro was awesome and the film is surprisingly detailed. In Bruges surprised me by being both hilarious and sad, plus Colin Ferrell was great in it.

Worst surprise was how bad The Love Guru was, worst film I have seen in years and Mike Myers worst by far.

Wanted was awesome, I went in knowing only that:

1. it's by a director that literally summons visual thunder (and boy, the movie was like sex for the eyes), and

2. vaguely remembering that some dude posted here that "OMG there's one scene where a guy headshots another guy and then sticks the barrel of the gun through the hole in the head and shoots other guys while running and holding the corpse ololololol".

Now, I was pretty sure that number 2 was actually a dream I had.

Turns out that scene really exists and kicks ass.

In Bruges defiantly, especially the whole scene between Colin Farrell and the two Canadians in the restaurant. Women comes at him Colin Farrell: "ahhhh! a bottle" *punch* that part had me stitches.

Kung Fu Panda... I thought it would be alright, not amazing (which it turned out to be). And yeah, The Love Guru was incredibly disappointing. I thought it would be hilarious... Mike Myers + India, what could go wrong? Apparently a lot could go wrong.

Yeah, I didn't expect Step Brothers to be all that great, but it left me short of breath from laughing quite a lot.

In Bruges. Even though Film-Guy had talked it up so I was looking forward to it. After reading what Ragek & Blood-Scribe wrote I may watch Step-Brothers tonight, it was that or Wanted.

The only funny part of the Love Guru was Stephen Colbert and Jim Gaffigan as the sports commentaters.

I just saw Benjamin Button and I have to say that it was actually quite good. the title makes you think it's garbage but to my honest surprise I must say I enjoyed it quite a lot. it was funny at times and yet emotional at other times as well. I definitely recommend it

WALL-E. Just damn. Pixar made some great movies in the past, but WALL-E topped them all in a way I didn't see coming. It even dropped my TDK hype for a while, because WALL-E set a bar I thought couldn't be reached, until Heath Ledger blew me away in a way I have never seen before.

Boy-A really surprised me. I didn't think the movie would end up being on of my favorites of the year. Also, The day the Earth stood still surprised me a lot. The movie was so bad I just couldn't believe it.

Prince Caspien was pretty damn good (I didn't expect it to be as good as I actually liked it), lets hope the third is going to be made following Disney's withdrawal. Another would be Twilight, sure there were some really lame parts like the fighting, the climax, the bad guys but as a romance it was well made. The Dark Knight surprised me simply because I didn't have any expectations, my cousin and I just walked in to see the film (on the first day in Australia it came out without knowing) I said "hey you wanna watch Batman" he shrugged and said "well what else?" and at the end of the film once we walked out my cousin said "I wanna watch it again" and I said "lets go watch it in IMAX"

I'm aware of that... but I think In Bruges was, particularly in the UK, advertised as something it wasn't, which was a bright comedy caper, when in fact, it was quite dark, and in part serious.
