Indie rock. I mean, get the **** over it. Occasionally a band from the indie scene breaks out and has a cool single or whatever (like, say, The Walkmen), but for the most part, this overgrown college rock bull**** is just some under-produced local band that gets a little buzz and is popular for like six months to a year. What's most frustrating is that it's music designed for the 16-25 crowd and yet it has little to no rock'n'roll energy to it. Whatever happened to gritty in-your-face underground punk rock? Fugazi, anyone?Â
Recent offenders:
Clap Your Hands, Say Yeah + Tapes 'n' Tapes. Have you ever heard either? May as well be named "music for sleeping."
Death Cab for Cutie. Well, they've proved that you need a clever, cutsey name to make it in indie rock. They also suck, just like every other indie act.
The National
LCD Soundsystem
Bright Eyes (should receive the death penalty)
Bloc Party
etc., etc., etc.
Special I-Hate-You mention goes to Wilco, who used to be an excellent rock band in the mid to late 90s, and now has redefined the idea of boring indie bands that suck.
**** you, indie rock'n'roll. You suck.
