I mean bands from the last 10-15 years, I really cant think of any. My favourite band is My Chemical Romance and i think they'll be remembered for being unique and doing something different with each album, although most people on here probably wont agree with me. I'd also say paramore, im not really a fan of them, but their pretty popular.

So what do you guys think?

This. They've been pretty consistent and not one-hit wonders. Although I may be bias, since a big fan of BritRock though :P But I can't think of anything else. Lady Gaga for being 'unique'?

No, for being the most overplayed, overhyped, awful artist of the last 5 years.

I'm actually surprised to see you mention MCR. They're my favorite band as well, yet I almost always only ever see people hating on them. It's a breath of fresh air finally seeing someone else acknowledge them like I do.

I get that the non mainstream like Arcade Fire but you won't be remembered if you can't cross to mainstream and I don't think they will do it. Local alternative station has listeners rate whether to play music or not and AF got the hate. Haven't played them since.....

Well U2 is old but they have 3 concert films in the can and the latest one is in 3D. People will probably want to study the films in the future.

I think they have enough mainstream appeal to be remembered in the end. The Grammy won't hurt. I certainly don't want the last decade to be remembered for Nickelback and all the growly bands out there.

Outkast. They've sold over 25 million albums and most of their albums received extremely high scores from critics. They don't just make cookie-cutter hip-hop either since they experiment a lot and all their albums sound completely different from one another.

Also: I think Arcade Fire will be remembered years down the road just because it's not necessarily the most well-known artists of the era that get remembered. Look at bands like King Crimson or The Velvet Underground -- they weren't the biggest bands of their era but now they're more well-known than a lot of other bands that were more popular at the time.

I was actually going to say "my chemical romance" as a joke because...well because they actually suck and they havent done anything memorable and are nothing but possers...but now I see that someone believes that they will be remembered for being a "great band" and I just lost my faith in humanity for like the 201234123rd time

Hm. Emo = emotional = Most bands.

And I dont get it, their posers by being emo and saying their not?

And have you listened to any of their new stuff?

And even if they were emo, that doesn't mean their music "sucks". You can at least agree their talented

It's not their. THEY'RE.

It's over there, it's theirs, they're made of pineapples.

And they're crap. Probably wont be remembered, but most great music won't be remembered either, just a random assortment of the most popular of popular music will, and sadly.... I'm thinking Beiber/other garbage kid bands, they'll get remembered, just like Britany Spears.

I agree with you. Most good music wont be remembered as being the good music, it'll be the mainstream sell-out stuff.

I wont argue about mcr anymore, cant argue against opinions

MCR wasn't an emo band though. They were never Emo at any point in their lifecycle. Fashionwise, you could argue they followed the emo fashion trend(but honestly, only to a degree....makeup =/= emo), but they were never a part of the emo music genre.

Who knows, history has a funny way of distorting what was "good" and "bad" back in the day (at least musically). What was best will be up to each person, but I think bands like Green Day, Rise Against and Linkin Park will probably be remembered in a fairly good light as they we unique enough to not be caught in the "pop" music phenomena while also being mainstream enough to get mass appeal and recognition.

MCR? are you serious? Sentenced is fairly modern even though they broke up 6 years.. they are respected, and already considered a classic by many.. the bands I see being defined as classics nowadays (in terms of metal) are probably bands like amon amarth, agalloch. nevermore, eluveitie, etc

I was thinking, maybe Black Veil Brides? I mean, they havent done much yet. I really dont like their music, but they seem to be going big and going big FAST. and also:

Lostprophets

30 seconds to mars (dont like them too much either, but seem pretty popular)

Panic! at the disco maybe?

I think, in trying to compile such a list, one has to look at the overall consistency and body of work that a band puts together. Very few modern day bands can be counted on album after album to be both a good listen, and successful on the charts.
