To be a true Aithiest you should actually study and understand every holy book and aspect of every religion in the world and then decide on whether you believe there is any god or powers-that-be which created and control the events in our lives. The reason i say that is because you may not believe in one religions teachings, but you might find you agree in another religions teachings. My old RMPS teacher told me that and he was a devout christian of the Church of Scotland and a very open minded man.
Pesonally i find religion to be archaic in todays society, its been the cause of more wars in history than anything else. And i also couldn't care how life was created or care who created it, life is on our planet and we should be focusing on how to survive and preserve it not focus on how it started. With the increasing damage we are doing to our planet by causing the rapid extinction of various creatures and polluting it, i feel we should be focusing more on how to save our planet than focusing on how it began.
[QUOTE="Atman_Do"]p.s. How the hell do you have Scientology on there, but not the world's oldest currently existing religion, which has FAR more members?SunofVich
You mean Hinduism?
Why is Hinduism not on the list?
I was thinking paganism. it's a generic term for a multitude of religions of more-or-less recognizable organization, and older than hindusism by far.[QUOTE="SunofVich"]You mean Hinduism?

Yep, that would be the oldest, and also the third largest, behind Christianity and Islam.
Really, GS polls need to allow more than 5 options...
No, it is not the oldest. It may be the oldest organized religion, but the many forms of paganism are far older.

As if most Christians have read the Koran... Don't think so.
Being an atheist you believe there is no supernatural being. It doesn't mean you disagree with what the religion teaches about life. I think you are messing those two up.

Hinduism is the largest, oldest and very complex single organized religion still in existance. The religion was well established at the beginning of recorded history. Some forms of Pagaism may be older but they are not larger.

And thus, by your own definition, not a religion.
Also, those neo-hippies that act all into "paganism" just to be all counter-culture or whatever nonsense piss me off.
how about polytheism, it incumpuses many religions.. just as Christianity dose, oh and I beleave the term is neo-paganist, but from what wikipidia says, thay sound like hippies to me, but thats cool.

not really - more of a shorthand. like saying "eggs", rather than specifying "duck eggs, chicken eggs, ostrich eggs". there's just so many of them, but they are all religions and many don't actually have names.

other than the fact that it's stupid to believe in gods, how come?
