other than the fact that it's stupid to believe in gods, how come?

Most of them (not all) strike me as being utter hypocrites, denouncing mainstream religions as silly, only to believe (or pretend to believe, as far as I'm concerened) in something that is just as silly, without even having the excuse of having had it planted in their heads through repitition since childhood, and I think it's more of wanting to be part of something trendy (among certain crowds) than an actual belief system.
Actually if you want to go deep. The belief that Athiests have is that there is no God.SunofVich
it's not a belief in the sense of believing gods exist. the difference is that there is no rational reason to postulate the existence of gods so belief that gods exist is irrational. it is not irrational to not believe that gods exist since there is no evidence of the existence of gods.
the difference is subtle to some people, but I think most people get it. also, a belief and a religion are not the same.
how about polytheism, it incumpuses many religions.. just as Christianity dose, oh and I beleave the term is neo-paganist, but from what wikipidia says, thay sound like hippies to me, but thats cool.

Polytheism is merely the belief in more than one deity. All Christians believe in the same things on some level, with variation in details, mostly in interpretation of the same religious texts (although a few sects actually have additional books).
Yeah, "neo-hippies" is my own term, although I'm sure I'm not the only person to ever use it. They generally seem to be into goofy music and have an aversion to committed relationships, which I assume is so that they can then turn around and b*tch about whatever anti-abortion laws actually still exist, and also since they must all be immune to HIV. And yes, now I'm just grossly overgeneralizing for satirical effect, so sue me.

Wrong. Atheists don't believe that there are gods.
Completely different thing.
Now, SOME atheists surely believe that there are no gods. However, that is not a necesary characteristic of atheism.

Athiesm imo is looked at in the completely wrong way.. Its not a belief it is merely the idea/reasoning to only accept scientifical facts and physical evidence.... I am sure every athiest here would if given absolute proof the next day by god walking on earth would then know that god exists as fact.
