Some of it is true while some of it is way off. At least, according to a Mormon I've spoken to in the past.

Yes That episode is extreme I have always wanted to watch that episode with a Mormon person and ask them if it is true about their beliefslaughingman42
I've heard that mormonism is much weirder than they let on. I'm not sure if that is true though.

Here is what i know from talking to mormons 1. they have a 2nd book where Jesus appeared to people in very early U.S. (but the bible says there should not be any more books) 2. They have parts of their church that are off limits (but Jesus was against this with the pharacies)Some of it is true while some of it is way off. From my own discussions, it's extremely hard to tell what differences they have with orthodox Christianity. Only after doing a lot of talking with them do you hear the completely unorthodox beliefs... such as them one day becoming gods, saved by not just grace through faith but faith and works, etc. I do know a lot of material that is put out against Mormonism has many faults in what it says, I need to actually read their own material some day to figure out exactly what they believe.I will join, do they allow sex parties.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was Morman i thought???

How sweet, we have someone who knows how to change what someone types. Well I changed it back to the correct name.
nynthninja
That's a nickname someone a while ago gave the Church. Although the correct name is what I posted or LDS for short. Mormon really isn't the correct name, even though many people refer to the Church as Mormon. I prefer the correct name myself, but that's my preference.
I heard that Morman consider themselves to be christian but there are no actual connections (aside from some similar beliefs) also the huge difference of christianity following a collective book of old men rambling...and LDS following John Smith writing on six golden plates....better than following prophecies out of a hat i guess[/QUOTEMind you that the prophesies that only he could read were on golden plates that dissapeared after he was done reading them.

Their literature will give you a better understanding of their beliefs in general though. I've had some close mormon friends who explained to be what they believed and how they practiced it and besides some of their views on afterlife it wasn't really all that different from normal Christian beliefs. But you do have the polygamists, those who believe they will be gods one day, those who believe god is mortal and will die and another god will succeed him/her etc. Some are truly a little out there. My friend goes to BYU (a mostly mormon uni I believe) and she tells me most of the women there are only there to find a husband and once they get engaged they drop out or switch to part time. But there are equally strange religious practices in the world.

Can Athiesm be conidered a religion?mindstormNo, it can't. Religion is "a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs." Though many atheists want it recognized as a religion....
That is ridiculous. Those people who want it recognised as a religion don't know what Atheism is. I am no Atheist, but I've actually read about it. Atheism is not the"other" catagory, It's just one explanation among many different non-theistic belief systems. I've found so many people who just throw themselves in the Atheism catagory because they can't answer Christian or Muslim or Jew etc. Please people, at least find out what you're claiming about yourself, and wether or not you actually believe it!

Yep, there certainly are a lot of other sects out there who claim to be LDS (Mormon) yet they have other views. This certainly leads to confusion and misleading beliefs about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
i belive in god but i also belive in evelotion and the big bang
Arealykelwguy
Contrary to popular belief that is not at all uncommon.
thats what i thought too. Although some classify it as a religon i guessIsn't atheism the lack of religion?
WhiteSnake5000
thats what i thought too. Although some classify it as a religon i guess It's the belief that there is no God. Agnosticism is more like a lack of religion, just questioning everything. An agnostic (if he/she cared enough) would say to an athiest, "how do you know for sure there is no God?", while also saying to all -theist religions: "how do you know that your version of a higher power is correct?" Anyway, I'm Taoist.Isn't atheism the lack of religion?
wildjango64
I'm agnostic. Some say I'm an agnostic atheist but I never claim for god not to exist, I just don't know if he does. So I just think I'm a plain agnostic.dog64
That is only gnostic atheism that you seem to be referring to. A more common use of the word atheism is simply a lack of belief in any god.
