Ok, I'm 180 pounds and 5'6 or 5'7 (Some muscle not too much fat) and I can't seem to lose any real weight. My weight will vary from 176.5 to about 180 in a day and I can't seem to go lower. I jog at least every other day and do at least 200 crunches a day (in incriments of a hundred) and I skip lunch on school days. I've been doing this for two weeks and there has been no improvement.

I thought that today was great because when I woke up I weighed 174. I had a small breakfast, some Chinese for lunch (not a lot) and I went jogging for an hour. After jogging I weighed 177.5. What The HELL!?!!?! I don't think I even took in 3 pounds. Does anyone see anything wrong with what I'm doing? Or am I just cursed? Any tips?

Well you do know muscle weighs more than fat right? And yes water retention could influence your weight but I dont get why you're trippin out for 3lbs. Its just 3lbs -- thats nothing.

What about you start messuring your BMI and muscle girth?

I mean... what is your goal? To lose weight or gain muscle?

Don't skip meals. That messes up your metabolism. Just eat foods lower in calories and fewer processed foods.

BMI=Bowel movement intensity? I hardly think poo retention could account for that kind of weight.

Don't do crunches yet, it has no affect until you have little fat there so that it can stick out.You need to do aerobic exercises to lose what, do that and eat healthy and you should lose some weight.

Eat healthy, eat only two mid-size meals a day and exercise. That's my advice, eating healthy and eating less are the big things you should do though.

I have a feeling you haven't changed your eating habits enough.

Chinese food, even a little bit, has a TON of calories in it. Even skipping lunch, if you had a large breakfast or large dinner, you'll make up for the calories you skipped. Snacking is bad too, unless it's the really low calorie snacks.

Also, jogging for any more than 20 minutes is supposedly a waste. Something about your body beginning to use less calories as you run more.

I lost 30 lbs in a little over 6 months by just changing my eating habits (no excercise whatsoever). Eat a small breakfast, small lunch, and medium sized dinner. No snacking... at all. And pretty much only drink water. I also ate very little bread for the first month, which helped a lot. I ate maybe the equivalent of 2 slices of bread a day (this includes pasta).

Now I can't finish meals that I was able to before. I'm always having to bring food home when I eat out, which was rare a year ago.

You also gain weight during the day as you eat and your body produces waste, etc. So weigh yourself in the morning only.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I'm 5'6 also, and was 21 when I did this (22 now).

What do you eat? If you eat crappy food you're not losing weight regardless of how little of it you eat.

I'm 5'6 too and only about 8% body fat and weigh 145 lbs and I'm a weight lifter. You are either being modest about how much fat you have or muscle, because I find that hard to believe.

Also, exercise for weight loss is more effective in the morning. Exercising before your evening meal promotes muscle gain. Something to do with hormones apparently.

That made me laugh...not going to lie. Anyway, yes, muscle does way more than fat, but it's all about how you go about it. You need to lose weight, and THEN gain muscle. You can't do both at the same time effectively. Also, skipping meals doesn't help since your metabolism gets slower. Eat more often, smaller portions.

NEVER skip meals. All it does is screw up your motabolism. You skip lunch, you're body absorbs more during dinner. It gets worse the more meals you skip.

I went from 170 to 150 pounds in a few months using these guidelines (allowing for very occasional days of not following them):

-only drink water and drink lots of it (sometimes when I had felt hungry, I realized I was actually just thirsty by doing this)

-eat about 5 meals everyday but keep them very small

-run and every week increase the distance per run by 1/3 mile and every 2 weeks increase the number of runs per week by 1

-make sure everything eaten has some sort of nutritional value (no junk food)

-not sure what impact this had, but I am vegetarian (though I was before I started trying to lose weight as well)

Hi, thanks for the advice. I just got my power back(I live on the east coast Damn Hanna).

I'm 17 and I know that muscle weights more than fat. I don't know exactly how much muscle I have, though I do know that a year ago I had 14% body fat (horrible I know). But that was before wrestling season and I don't think it's that high. Probably 9-10%.I'm trying yo get down to 160 pounds (my wrestling weight last year). I had a similar problem last year (started the season at 175 pounds) and I thought I would try to not repeat losing 15 pounds in like a month.

And I have also heard that I shouldn't skip meals. The problem is my school pretty much only serves stuff like pizza, hamburgers, fries etc. And they seem to love finding ways to make it disgusting and full of calories. You can get a salad by itself, but it costs more than a normal lunch and comes with meat cheese and dressing on it. ( )

Also, I eat ok. A bowl of cereal in the morning, no lunch or a sandwich and fruit and dinner. Dinner is probably where I go wrong. My parents often serve nice healthy stuff like fish and there is always a salad or fruit side dish. But we also get take out once a week and it's usually Italian, Chinese, or Mexican (all bad, but yet so good:P:cry:). The problem here though is that if I don't eat a full serving my parents start to worry. They think my weight is fine and that I don't need to lose weight.

Btw, I do snack some but nowadays I usually go for fruit. Usually unfortunately doesn't mean always. I have on occasion broken down and eat some chips.

Your body might just be very comfortable at that weight. If your not unhealthly fat, its no big deal.

I recommend lifting weights. That will increase your metabolism, furthering fat loss. Also, eat 3-5 small to medium meals a day. Keep calories around 2500-3500. Skipping meals actually makes you gain weight.

NintendoLover00

Do crunches now could still help. You will not lose fat from doing them, but after a decent amount of fat is gone the muscles will already start to show. I did crunches even when I had some excess body fat and once a decent amount vanished the abs started showing up.

Skipping lunch is a big problem. During the school year I also skipped lunch and then come summer when I start eating lunch I lost a lot of weight. Now you don't have to eat a huge lunch, what I do is just drink a slim fast or eat a breakfast bar. You just need a little nutrition to boost your metabolism. Other wise when you eat dinner its all going to stick to you.

Oh and I see that you are trying to go from 180 lbs to 160 lbs. This summer in 2 months I went from exactly 180 to 161 lbs.

Skipping lunch is your biggest problem. When your body isn't eating the right ammount of meals and if you go longer than four horus without eating your body begins to burn lean tissue. The best way to lose fat is to go walking for an hour RIGHT when you wake up PRIOR to eating anything, so your body burns the lowest fuel, fat. Not eating is central though prior to walking. And if you go too long without eating your body begins to starve itself and store up fuel as fat. So skipping a meal is coutner productive.

You can't judge your weight by weighing yourself through the day. The easiest way to track your weight is to weigh yourself once a week at the same time.

You are eating your daily expenditure in calories. Its actually not a bad thing, you are healthily maintaining your weight like any normal person. If you want to lose weight, cut your calories, thats simple. Eat many times a day, but instead of having a sandwhich, chips and fruit split that into 2 meals and have 1 more small meal and you will start losing guaranteed!

Sajedene

Sorry, but muscle does not weigh more than fat. 1 pound = 1 pound. Muscle does take up less space than fat though.

What about you start messuring your BMI and muscle girth?

I mean... what is your goal? To lose weight or gain muscle?

Sorry, but muscle does not weigh more than fat. 1 pound = 1 pound. Muscle does take up less space than fat though.

If 1 pound = 1 pound, but takes up less space, wouldn't it weigh more? :?

No, that has to do with density. And I wish I was like you thinking 3 lbs was just 3 lbs... :(
