Assuming that the artist produces/writes thier own stuff

Rap- Rappers gotta have the most lyrical talent, thier verses are long, and require lots of wordplay and metaphors to go with the theme of the lyrics. On top of that they have to have the rapping voice as well as some killer flow so they don't have to rhyme everything. On top of that rappers usually don't have the strongest singing voice yet need to come up with a good hook.

Im not talking about fools like tyga im talking real rappers

Metal- Gotta tie a lot of heavy instruments together and make it sound good, which is a lot harder than producing some crappy dance beat on some imac, and the singer needs to have a really strong voice, its not easy pop singing here. Sometimes they add some screams in which takes a lot of skill

Jazz, flamenco/classical guitar and technical death metal are the hardest.

I think opera singers take alot of talent to modulate their voice the way they do. Composers that put together symphonies...that's tough stuff as well. I also think high level pop singers(I'm talking MJ/Prince/Elvis level) have tons of talent because they make technically great music with lyrics they often write and still make it catchy enough for the masses.

Least talented I don't know.

I think the top tiered artists of each genre are pretty much on the same level in terms of talent, because in reality, you really can't measure talent levels of music genres and then compare each of them. It's comparing apples to butterflies.

Most: Tie between Classical, Jazz, and Hip-Hop (inb4 some idiot tries to convince me there's a difference between Hip-Hop and Rap)
Least: Screamo and Dub-Step.

I think most take an equal level of talent. The only genre I don't think takes much if any is this new auto-tuned crap or that club music where it's just the same line repeated over and over.

I'm going to have to say it depends on how much work musicians puts into their works. In the end it depends on whether they accomplished their goals to create the music they wanted.

Also RAP takes no talent at all!! Metal all the way dude!

These threads are usually full of misleading comments. A genre might be "easy" to make a song in, but that doesn't mean that genre as a whole takes no talent. People say it's easy to make a house/trace/dub song, well it probably isn't the hardest thing in the world, it won't be a GOOD song, you have to make it good. It's pretty easy to pick up a guitar as well, but making a song people will want to hear is a different manner. As for my input, hardest would probably be some of the really hard technical death/black metal, classical and opera. Easiest i'd have to say would be the kind of rap like Tyler, The Creator.

You need some form of skill and that special talent to stand out in every genre. Just because something "sounds" easy doesn't always mean that it is. People claim that they can do it but yet not prove anything as such. But, as for more of a harder standpoint I would say classical because of all the instruments stringing in/solos/etc. I think rap could be hard though seeing as it is a lyrics heavy genre.

depends. mainstream hip hop(soulja boy) is easy, but someone like mos def has more talent than can be measured. Metal sucks, but im sure it takes talent.

Country sucks, and takes the least talent, but then there are some great guitarists that play country music. Metal and especially death metal is pure garbage though.

In terms of pure voice it has to be Opera. Rap is kinda hit and miss, I mean their actually singing voice doesn't have to be that good, and you have jokes from Tyga to Drake to Rick Ross, but it can also be difficult. Rock requires a good mix of rythm, instrumentation, lyrics, and quality singing.

Though i personally love rap, I think it takes the least talent. Anyone with even a mediocre vocabulary can craft a few reasonably sounding lines by just listening to a beat. Other genres require that a person actually be able to play and instrument, which takes years of practice- writing raps just requires a basic english education, really.

This thread is set up from the get go to be ridiculously dumb. All music - genuine music, not that made by a corporate record label in the same way that a factory makes flat-pack furniture - takes talent. The talent is right there in creating the music itself, in creating something worth listening to. It doesn't matter if you do it with a massive orchestra or with a drum machine and a looper.

I'd say the two biggest factors for determining this would be complexity of music (while still remaining emotionally engaging) and the ability to preform it, in relatively the same manner (with twists and tweaks in the moment), live.

I implore to you try rapping to an instrumental and see just how hard it is. You're half right; writing raps = easy. Actually rapping them = very difficult.

I actually do as a pass time. While I wouldn't claim to actually be good, it's much easier to pick up a pen with little prior experience than to pick up a guitar.

Why are so many people saying dubstep? Those producers are like gods when it comes to tuning a good bass, whether you like the music or not is irrelevant.

I laugh every time someone says that a certain genre takes "no talent." If they're so talentless, why don't you cash in on the music craze and make your own "talentless" music? Must be because you have negative tale- >mind blank Damn it

lol @ a lot of the replies in this thread.

To compare how much "talent" a genre requires without a good deal of experience writing or even performing in said genre is the apex of arrogance.

A big chunk of it sure ain't "art".

Talentless.

All music is art for the fact that it is all subjective to interpretation of what was being felt in the creators heart when it was produced.

Talent is in the eye of the beholder there is no defined measure for hardwork or talent in reality so there is no music that just all of a sudden takes more talent or work then any other.
