Poll What was your favorite movie release of 2016 and what made it special to you? (19 votes)

10 Cloverfield Lane 0%
The Accountant 5%
Arrival 26%
Captain America: Civil War 0%
Deadpool 16%
Doctor Strange 0%
Don't Breathe 0%
Everybody Wants Some 0%
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 5%
Green Room 0%
Hacksaw Ridge 5%
Hell or High Water 5%
Magnificent 7 0%
Sully 0%
The Witch 11%
OTHER (Please specify) 26%

I thought 2016 was a weak year for movies until I looked at the list I have here, lot of good stuff on here. Sorry if I missed a movie or 2, I tried to hit most of the big ones.

No clear favorite for me on here, The Witch to me was the most refreshing horror movie in years, Hacksaw Ridge one of the best WW2 movies in years, some good Marvel superhero movies here, and some nice surprises. I really liked Cloverfield Lane despite the jarring redirect near the end. Sully was a fantastic feel good movie and exceeded my expectations. Don't Breathe and The Accountant were nice surprises, and unlike the critics I really enjoyed Girl on a Train (probably had something to do with Haley Bennett in the movie), a movie I didn't list.

But above all I think I liked Hell or High Water best despite being a bit of a ripoff to No Country for Old Men. great cast and great feel to it.

Ok guys, what did you pick and why?

Me and another forum member johnclane26 have seen 40 movies so far this year at the cinema thanks to odean limitless.

My top 5 is

1. Arrival

2. David brent life on the road

3. Blood farther

4. Now you see me 2

5. The accountant

Been a really strong year for movies however there have been some stinkers like

- friend request

- Blair witch 2016

- deep water horizon

- independence day 2

Avoid those 4 films

@thehig1:

I did see Deepwater Horizon, I thought it was decent but overrated. Blair Witch was terrible, last 20 minutes or so was the best part.

3 on my list I haven't seen: Fantastic Beasts, Green Room, and Everybody Wants Some. When it comes to The Green Room, it didn't seem to be playing anywhere near here. Too bad, I really wanted to see it.

Arrival is a really good movie, just understand it's more cerebral than an action-packed movie, that's fine with me, just wanted you to know.

My tops were,

  • Money Monster
  • Xmen Apocalypse
  • Free State
  • 10 Cloverfield
  • Warcraft
  • Neon Demon

Xmen was maybe my fav cause im fanboy for Xmen. I dont read the comics, but when i was young i use to watch the cartoon and collect cards, etc. So i know a bunch of the characters and enjoyed it a lot.

Money Monster was a very fun movie. Was a blast from start to finish. Free State was rich in lore and an amazing tale. 10 Cloverfield cant remember too much, but i loved it alot.

Warcraft im a big fanboy and loved every bit. I was even craving more when it ended as it pumped my excitement. The world was breathtaking.

Neon Demon was my guilty pleasure. I enjoyed its darkside. A lot of the new movies i havnt seen, newest one is Star Trek, Suicide Squad, and Swiss Army Man.

But I voted for The Witch since I think it was a pretty well made horror.

@dakur:

Can't include everything despite your opinion on The Wailing......can't be a fail because I included Other as an option. I think I included most of the better movies in any event, if I missed a few just tap other.

It's all good, in all honesty I hadn't heard of The Wailing.....but just read up about it, looks like a good movie. Didn't see it playing in theatres around here. Anyways, liked The Witch as well, saw it twice.

Oh I highly recommend The Wailing along some other korean gems like The Chaser, Memories of Murder, Bedevilled and, of course, Oldboy if you haven't watch it yet. Korean films are some of the best during this decade in my opinion. They're top class in action, drama and horror.

I will have to look them up, one of my best friends is a Korean guy, I'll have to ask him if he's familiar with them.

It's always good to learn something new on these threads, thanks.

Deadpool, The Accountant and Hacksaw Ridge were all fantastic moves. Civil War was okay but I grew bored at the end.

The Accountant was the most entertaining for me and I thought the performances were great.

It was definitely Batman V Superman for me. I didn't know what to make of it at first, but after careful study and analysis, I've come to love this film as the best comic book movie ever made. The level of character depth and nuance is sonething that you never see in this genre. The social comentary is also smart and strikes me as something that needs to be said right now.

It wasn't perfect (a lot of the doomsday scenes and dialogue was rather cheesy in sharp contrast to the rest of the film), but overall, I loved this movie.

Hacksaw Ridge because i love World War 2 and its a story not many people probably knew about. Mel Gibson delivered big time as usual.

@Flubbbs:

Yeah, Hacksaw Ridge was an excellent movie, Okinawa was such an intense battle and it was captured well here. Mel Gibsons movies are often intense and bloody, remember Apocalypto (or some title like that).

The Arrival... It was intelligent, beautiful, surreal. One of the best movies I've ever seen.

Just saw Fantastic Beasts, really good movie. Looks like another great series. But I had plenty of questions about it.
