[QUOTE="mrbojangles25"] [QUOTE="MilkMaster69"]Why should anyone care if their guns were eliminated from their lives in a supposedly civilized country?MilkMaster69
because its a freedom we have and the government would unjustly be taking it away.
I dont care if its freedom to have 100 poptarts a day, freedom to drink all the beer you want, or freedom to express how racists you are...the government is taking away a right people want.
What the rest of the world fails to realize is that America, for better or worse (for worse imo) wants guns, and it is therefore criminal for the government to take them away.
Not to sound cliche, but its the principle of the matter.
Do you think a freedom to own suitcase nukes for any eventuality is also cool? Hey, it's just like a gun, but with a bigger boom, right? If you are so for freedom, then surely you pass that sentiment on to every other nation too, right?
yet another person misses the point.
Notice that I said its a freedom we want. No sane person wants another person to have the right to carry a suitcase nuke, let alone does the majority want that, so therefore it is not a right.
With guns, enough people go hunting, shoot targets, need it for self-defence (yes, America is far from perfect and I can name five instances where a household gun has saved people I know), and other things that the majority finds the right to own weapons a reasonable thing, so therefore it is our right to own guns.
like I said, you miss the point...what you need to do is realize that a simple state of mind where you think "guns are bad, therefore the right to own guns is bad" is not appropriate. Like Obi Wan said, "only a Sith deals in absolutes!" and you are indeed dealing with absolutes with that black and white thinking of yours.
THe world is a gigantic and beautiful gray splotch, man, and the freedom to own guns has its good and bad sides. At this time, it seems the good outweighs the bad but as soon as the bad outweighs the good you can be damn sure Americans will ban them.
