what would you say if your girlfriend told you this?

My Girlfriend just told me should would stop smoking for me if i wanted and i really couldnt have said good without sounding judgemental. Plus we have only been dating for about a week so not only am i trying to hold on to this girl i really couldnt believe she would make a desicion like that for me.

what would you have said right then and there?

I probably would have said something along the lines of...

"That's great, *insert name here*, and I want you to know that I'm here to help in in any way I can"

"I appreciate that, but you should quit for yourself not me"

i tried to tell her she didnt have to do that for me but she was pretty persistant so i have hope that it will happen

Pregnancy came to mind for me. Or "I've been nailing your best friend in your shed."

"It's amazing you'd do that for me, but its not my decision. If you like to smoke, you should, it's fine by me."

Why does everyone think that dating for a week automatically makes you boyfriend and girlfriend? Is everyone so shallow with their relationships? That you can just start them and stop them on a whim? I usually wait at least a couple months before I start anything serious with someone.

But seriously, I asked my ex to stop smoking for me, she said she'd try, but it didn't work out anyway.

I would just say I was there to help her do it.

In all honesty, smoking cigarettes is a huge no-no for me and if I was to stay with a girl long-term she would have to quit or I would have to leave her.....

Well I smoke every now and then, so if she wanted to follow a similar pattern I'd be fine with that. If she was a chain smoker I'd probably try and help her to slow down a little and maybe eventually quit.

And to the ignorant people who wouldn't even associate yourselves with a smoker, get a life. You're not perfect either. It's a simple habit and a lot of people do it.
