Well I smoke every now and then, so if she wanted to follow a similar pattern I'd be fine with that. If she was a chain smoker I'd probably try and help her to slow down a little and maybe eventually quit.
And to the ignorant people who wouldn't even associate yourselves with a smoker, get a life. You're not perfect either. It's a simple habit and a lot of people do it.

I would have said: Don't stop smoking for me, stop smoking for yourself. Though if she does stop smoking for you it should still help her help herself.

Same here, smoking really puts me off liking someone (as a gf anyway, but i have several friends who do it, i dont approve but theres not much you can do)
Probably would have said something like: "Look, we've only been dating for a week, you don't need to change yor life based on what I think. If you want to stop smoking, you do it, but I wouldn't feel right telling you what to do at this point."
