To those in college, I'm a senior in high school and I'm looking forward to college. I'm planning on doing ROTC and track, and maybe a double major (english and somethign else). What is college life like? How are the people and classes and teachers? What is everything like?

People are are more mature, teachers don't give out detention or needlessly shout & you usually have more free time.

Well I was from a small high school and I commute to a university like 30 min up the road, but it is quite different. I don't even live there and the campus isn't very large but there is literally something to do all of the time. Thats the cool part, but the part that sucks is the work and all is pretty much like read the book and teach yourself kinda. So its a lot harder IMO. I'm a freshman by the way so I don't have a lot of experience to share with you. :Plol

Not where I go. The underclassmen, with some exceptions, are just as immature as high schoolers are.

don't expect people to be more mature unless you hang out with people who have been there for more than a year. The newbies are still just like high school kids. The teachers don't do detentions nor do they care if you show up or not (although you will when you have to drop out over it). Don't expect the classes to be easy though. Also I highly suggest avoiding any and all online courses because the teachers don't teach anything. I know lectures are boring, but trust me when I say you will have wanted those lectures when you try to figure out your homework. Outside of that I guess the biggest difference is that I play a lot of video games in the commons when I'm not in class, but that might just be my place that I go to.

Your college experience will be exactly what you make it. Everyone has a different experience. Some people go there just to get a degree, some people go there just to party, and some people go there for a combination of the two and/or other aspects. College can be a really fun place and it can be a really challenging place. That also depends greatly on what your major is. If you're majoring in science, engineering, computers, etc., it'll probably be pretty hard. If you're getting a more liberal arts degree, then it'll probably be a little easier. Your experience will be different if you choose to live on-campus than if you choose to live off-campus. It'll be different if you are highly involved with clubs, sports, organizations, etc. It really is what you make it. It's very different from high school. Some people like that while others don't.

yeah that's what I said. generally you have to wait a year or so and the immature ones will be gone or have new personalities and focusing on work rather than play.

Homework, most people would rather get wasted than do something interesting, you know very few people on campus unless you live in dorms, despite what people tell you the college scene attracts tons of douchebags and morons, most everyone keeps to themselves, homework, boring, a ton more studying than HS, you get to arrange your classes how you want to, profs don't care about you (Most of the time) you usually only have 2-3 hours of classes a day depending how you arrange them, you can skip class if you feel like it with no real repercussions (If you can find the notes somewhere and the prof isn't a dick) tons of freedom, lot's of different clubs and organizations, jocks rule the land and nerds are still losers...That's about it.

Professors are not gonna hunt you down if you skip or are late to class though some will actually factor in attendence into your grade.

Depends on what you major in honestly. If it's something easy you will be partying or doing whatever with your free time, if it's something like law, engineering or any of the more intensive subjects you aren't going to be given much free time.

It's the best time of your life if you're the type who can get things done fast. A lot of clubs and events to go to. On the other hand, if you're slow at studying and finishing assignment, then get prepared to pull all your hair out.

Wow, those questions are really broad. I am finding it very difficult to answer them. I have always found college must like high school in terms of people, classes, and teachers except there is just more variety.

I just finished graduate school, so i can tell you my experiences. I went to a huge university and had a wonderful time. there will be people you like, and people you dislike, just like in highschool, but now, you arent forced to be around people you dislike. you will find your group of friends. lots of parties, social events, school events. you will study a lot more than you did in high school (im assuming) and really that wont be as much studying as you should have done. you will have mroe responsibilities but its good. you get to start managing your own life. i miss college. it was a great time. damn real world

I quite agree with this. I choose for my college experience to be learning first, fun second. And I think i'm doing a good job at it. I'm enjoying myself, i've met a lot of new people.

My first year was a joke to be honest. I did little to no work whatsoever, yet still passed all my finals without a problem. And that's not a reflection of my ability, that's a reflection of how easy the first year of University is. :P First year, people go nuts. If you're staying in dorms/halls you'll be amazed at how inconsiderate and loud everyone is. You'll get used to loud music in the early hours of the morning, people screaming and drinking/going out every night. It's fun, but i was relieved when everyone chilled and calmed down a little the second year. :)

It is a new beginning.

It is hard at times cause you need to study everyday and look pass all tests. You are now with roomates or yourself. You need to buy everything. Gas, food, clothing etc.

One Word - Awesome. All my classes are well structured and informative. Yeah homework is a bummer but oh well! I have met a lot of new friends in college, met my current girlfriend there, much more freedom, and a lot of shenanigans. Also, kids are more mature and no more cliques!

Don't go into college with a smug sense of self worth and intelligence. I was severely shot down in first semester.

Its undeniably awesome if you get that whole "I'm gonna be paying those loans off for the rest of my life" thing out of your head. I know it took me a while to get that off my mind. :x

College is awesome. If you have a good work ethic and understand the concept of time management, it's relatively easy. It can get stressful at times, but that's life.

My first two years of college have been the best years of my life. I have met some truly amazing people at my school.
