I wouldn't trust any of gamespot's 10 ratings for the last 2 or so years since they implemented the .5 system. The old system was .1 but apparently it was too difficult for people to understand.

because the 10s from before the .1 to .5 increment make more sense than those that came after?

because the 10s from before the .1 to .5 increment make more sense than those that came after? Yes because what could have originally been scored a 9.7 or 9.8 would now be scored as 10. If it was scored 10 before then that game was definitely worth a 10.

If it was scored 10 before then that game was definitely worth a 10. neither ocarina of time nor THPS3 deserve a 10 at all. Chrono Cross and Soul Calibur, I suppose.

Well that comes down to personal preference. General preference seems to think they do deserve the 10s. if it's all down to preference, then why don't MGS4 and GTA4 and whatever else also deserve the 10 they received? I'm not saying they don't. I'm saying if you are going to use gamespot's ratings to influence you in purchasing a game, be critical of the 10s they give because they may not be a perfect 10 due to the use of the .5 system.
