I fail to understand it. Maybe importing from another country, but strictly buying brands which originated in America? Does that make Sega products okay?

Anyways, supporters say it's to help the economy, but if I bought a Volkswagon or a Toyota, there would be American workers and plants making money as well, which means more Americans spending money, which means the US still gets that economy thing whenever a car is bought. The only difference is that some foreign CEOs get a cut. Is there any point to buying American only other than spite?

If American companies wanted me to buy American, then they should build better products than their foreign competition. :P

Last time I bought American, "imported from Detroit" (as Chrysler's new ad campaign likes to say) the damn thing was built in Mexico.

I think it's funny that the people who insist on buying American are often the same ones who are super pro-Capitalism. But yeah thankfully the only things Canadians are concerned about buying Canadian is beer. Even then we suck at it since Moosehead Lager is the largest Canadian owned beer producer now. That and Molson Canadian is complete crap.

I tend to not buy things made in the states. I find that over seas stuff tends to be better... Thus why I don't have an American made car.

I think more importantly than just buying American is to start making equal or superior products, not outsourcing, and then exporting more than we import. I think that would boost the economy more. This would keep more jobs here and create more of them because there would be a higher demand with all of the exporting. This in turn would create more revenue kept here in the States. Better => Exports => Jobs => ^Economy.

Actually you very likely do have an American made car, at least if you drive a Japanese make, as many of the Japanese makers have factories here in the States.

What about Labatt? Thought there were training facilities with the 7 hot chicks in Canada stirring the beer with a hockey stick made of ice?

Nope. There is no economical evidence supporting that.

During the Great Depression, we exported more than we imported.

Nothing really, most American made things are garbage, and when it comes to vehicles or appliances they're made in another country, but just with an American Brand name.

It's always been the bankers and Wall street types that ruin our economy, not people buying imported products. At least we can agree on this.
