What's the difference between anime and cartoon?

I seem to remember they were doing X rated parodies/versions of Mickey Mouse and co. since they were created. There's a story about an animator showing one to Walt Disney during a big meeting, and he laughed along with everyone else, then fired the guy who made it at the end of the meeting. DOn't know if that's particularly true, but there certainly would adult versions made by other people even during that time.

I think people have already said this, but basically it's the style.

They're heaps different. Cartoon is Western. Anime is Japanese. They have their different styIes that goes beyond the art.Bioshockraptor

In Japan, they refer to cartoons as anime too. They don't really differentiate like we do here.

Anime is overrated...personally I think it's stupid. Just my opinion.

Anime is Japanese animation. The only difference can be that 'cartoon' usually refers to children's shows, and there are animes with more mature themes.MrPraline
