Im getting bored with just having one accent
And i thought it would be cool to be able to do different accents well.
But i dont really know where to start and whats best for learning a new accent.
I dont want to learn another language all together.. I just wish for another accent.
Like a south african accent, or a Finish accent or something.
I just think it would be interesting =)

Any suggestions on where i could start learning how to do a different accent?
Its 12.42am here right now. So ill be heading off to bed now.
So i wont be able to post back until morning.

Thanks in advance for any helpers.

well easier then flying all over the globe, just watch some shows where a person is speaking in a particular accent, and try to emulate it. for example: watch a british actor to learn a british accent.

Surround yourself with the accent....in other words, move.

Me and one of my friends decided to watch Braveheart at around midnight one time.  At around 3:30am, when the movie finished, we both started talking with Scottish accents without meaning to!  It is one of the strangest things that has ever happened to me.

What's wrong with just having one accent? Does having multiple accents make you cooler, or something? Sounds like a waste of time to me, m8. ¬¬

If you want to learn an accent, do not evertry to learn it movies or TV shows. Being Irish I know that horror as good as anyone. You will usually have a pitiful and inaccurate impersonation instead. The onyl way to learn an accent properly is to go to the palce who's accent you want to learn, and hear it for yourself. It'll take a long time, however, accents can't be learned "easily".

You need to constantly hear the accent. That's the best way to absorb it.

Does anyone remember those old commercials that used to air on Nick with that green monster who taught a foreign language? I cannot remember the name of the thing being sold on the commercial, but I used to laugh at them. He would dress up like a French guy, or Italian, or whatever and the little kids seemed to pick it up really quickly on the video.

I know what you're talking about... Hooked on Phonics, or something... With that lady on the commercial going, "Yes, that's French they're speaking. And no these children aren't French they're American. :D" Something like that?

Yes. I can hear the commercial in my head, but for the life of me, I cannot remember the name of it. It is on the tip of my tongue, too.

Umm, just spend time with people who speak with different accents. Eventually it will come naturally. I didn't start speaking like a nerd until I started making a bunch of nerd friends.

You have to figure out what they do with their tongue and such when speaking to produce the kinds of sounds that you're trying to imitate. Otherwise you're just doing trial and error.
