He hasn't told me any horrible stories about WW2. Plenty of interesting ones, though.

both of my grandpas fought in the war, but I never heard any stories. all I know is that my mom's dad was in the navy, and my dad's dad was a tail gunner in a bomber in the pacific.

Does world war 1 count?

After battles they used to send out nurses with carts to pick up all the bodies they could. My great grandfather was severley wounded and uncocious when he got thrown onto one of these things after a fight. He woke up in a massive pile of corpses and screamed until the nurse heard him.

He mainly told me about all the bad ass stuff he did...

Im pretty sure most of his buddies from the war made it too. They were 5 or 6 of them that were always over at his place when he was alive.

Sorry to hear your about grandfather's his friend.

My grandfather was held as a prisoner along with other soldiers in the Philippines. They were eventually liberated and freed by US and Philippine forces.

My grandfather didn't fight in World War II. He's only 65. My maternal grandfather was in the Air Force, but he only trained fighter pilots.

I only have a happy one. Both of my grandpas were in the war, my italian one had to hide from the nazis, while my german had to fight for them. Luckily my german grandpa got captured by the french (about 2 years after WWII he was released). My german grandpa had a farm in germany, where my grandma was at. Now heres the interesting part--- They got two french paratroopers (now im not clear on the facts, either the troopers fell from the sky or the nazis gave them to my grandma), if they got them from the government they were supposed to be used as slaves. But my grandma was nice and as long as they worked on the farm (she worked hard too!) they would get food to eat and a bed to sleep in.

BTW when my german grandpa came back after the war, my mom says he has never (or very very rarely) spoken of it.

Granpa (from my father's side) became a cross dressing hooker to make ends meet during the war. There's a disturbing story involving him, two midgets, a Siamese twin, and a case of tomatoes but I'm afraid it would be against the TOS to tell it.

my great grandfather was in WWII and he was on a boat with jets taking off. on of the gets was taking off and one of the chains was not undone it snaped and whiped around injuring 5 people including him sliced 1 guy in half. another guy had his leg sliced off and my great grandfather broke both his legs and was sent back home to the Ottawa hospital where he recovered and was finished serving in the war.

He told me that lots of times, when it was really cold, people would cut open a dead body and stick their hands and feet in to keep themselves warm. I don't know if he did it himself or if he just saw others do it, or what, but that's what he told me. Though he never really talked much about the war to me.

He died before I was born, but my grandma said that he flew planes, charting out some islands in the pacific. He had a boxing match with a guy to see who would go to a different island. He lost, so the other guy flew to the island. His plane was shot down on the way there. If he hadn't lost, I wouldn't be here.

Now my entire family is Norwegian so I can't say I can toss up a story about D-Day, Iwo Jima and so on. However I do have several stories as my Grandfather was in the Resistance group during World War 2 when German forces occupied Norway, I'll tell you one for now.

At that time my Grandfather lived in a very small town where you had to take a boat across a rather large fjord, basically a canyon river, to reach the town. He knew how to row and when the germans sat up a base some distance away on the other side of the fjord the soldiers would occassionally head to the town for beer and decent food. For rations of army food and even other stuff, he would take a couple of soldiers in his boat and row them back to town. Now the thing is, underneath where all the german soldiers were sitting, he actually had a communication radio and a handgun hidden. He also had a knife hidden at the front of the boat, behind him technically. On some occassions there would be a german soldier that had gotten a little too much to drink and wanted back to the base, my grandfather would say he could row him over for free which they always agreed to. However halfways over my grandfather would get his knife, slit the soldiers throath and throw him overboard before rowing back to town. He claimed he had taken 16 german soldiers that way alone, not counting the ones he shot at sabotage missions.

my grandfather ran engines for ships that sailed round the world a few times. the other one was almost in the Invasion of Japan, so...that.

my family has a rather interesting history of avoiding war, actually. my grandfather left after WWII and hadn't fired a shot, and my dad and uncle were almost drafted in Vietnam (my Uncle's number was actually called, but it was near the end of the war so they said he didn't have to go). in fact, I think on both sides the last war my family actually fought in was the Spanish-American War back round the turn of the century (unless I have some poor bastard of an ancestor that fought in WWI...).

Not even my own family praises my grandfather to the point of calling him a one man army or Sam Fisher. xD

But you did what you had to do at those times, he often said he felt guilty for taking away someones father, husband and son during those times. Afterall they were only following orders, like soldiers are supposed to do.

My pop pop only ever played basketball for the army during the Korean war, and my grandfather only was a crptographer just as WWII was ending. I lived with a man for a few years who was a heli pilot in Vietnam, but those are his stories and not mine to tell.
