If by "reason" you mean "cause" it's the scientifically explanation you just ruled out. If by "reason" you mean "purpose", we don't have one.
There probably is no reason for our existence. We are all just the rearrangement of complex organic molecules.
And in the grand scheme of things, our lifes are probably no more important than that of bugs and insects.
Hard to say. If the natural tendency of things is for more disorder as per the laws of entropy, it's hard to fathom that the complex organization of matter resulting in life would spontaneously happen. That would suggest an opposite trend that things proceed toward more order. But thermodynamics says no, so I dont know.
why did god decide to put us into existance billions of years after the big bang? if god is all knowing and wanted us to exist, why did god wait so long to put us into existence? and don't say god wanted to wait for the right conditions, god could of made the conditions right from the startWhy are we here? Because God put us here.

Thanks for all the serious answers.

I think it's to evolve.
Physically and mentally.
Personally and as a society.
And reach higher planes....
Are you ready?
We have no purpose. Do the mountains have purpose? Do the trees have purpose? Does the Sun have a purpose?
To answer your second question, I think George Carlin puts it best. Human life is just a big ball rolling around. It started about a billions years ago, (even the beginning of time if you want to factor when all the variables started coming into place) and it has not beginning and no end. When you realize this, I think you'll be able to truly appreciate the awsomeness of life and you'll be able to look at the world through as Liebniz puts it "the eyes of eternity"
We're here because of chance and our purpose is to find happiness. There is no set path or purpose, each one must find his/her own path in life.
That's what I believe.

That's the most depressing answer in the thread.
Pretty much true. You're born to spread your genes to the next generation.Even if that were the case, we're passed that now as a species.
Humans were created by God. The first humans were Adam and Eve.
The chief purpose of mankind is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.
Please note that this is not a religious answer, as true Christianity (that is, repenting from your sins and receiving forgiveness and eternal life through Jesus Christ) is not a religion; so this post satisfies the topic starter's request that no religious answers be posted.

How so?Well i can quite happily, and i intend to, not pass on my genes. I am part of the human race so i mean i guess we are.

As to no scientific or religious answers. That's just silly.
The scientific answer is that life came from nothing. And from basic life forms evolved through mutation and natural selection, us human beings.
The religious answer says, Deity/deities created man.
The scientific one seems more likely, in my humble opinion, but the question still arises, what is life in the first place? Why do we have conscience thought? What evolutionary purpose does it serve? Those questions are easy to answer when you look at the benefits of society. This, ironically, is where religion comes in, because religion is one of the reasons why civilizations exist. So, it requires both science and religion to answer your question.

Activity isnt how it used to be to say the least. From what I saw though there was some effort to have proper debates there several months ago. I didnt participate though (for obvious reasons).
I still remember the good times though.

That is kind of a recurring theme on gamespot nowadays. It's really too bad. Good times indeed. Why is it not a religion? It's a relationship with God... DUH!! Relationship with God / Jesus... That one's been used a few too many times now I think. One bit of credit I give to Muslims, is that at least they admit that Islam is a religion, and they have no problem saying it to anyone. Christians, on the other hand, don't like to say it's a religion cause they think it's demeaning in some way because there are so many religions in the word, so they prefer to use "relationship with God" instead, to make it seem like it's special.[QUOTE="inoperativeRS"][QUOTE="MathMattS"]

Sorry Christians, your religion is no different to Islam, apart from that it's based on a different story book, with different characters, plot, and "guidelines for living".
Can I get a new purpose? I don't like that one :(Humans were created by God. The first humans were Adam and Eve.

Thanks for all the answers.:)
I think f****** is the meaning of life.:P
Lol,maybe we are destined to conquer the universe?
And then perish.
This thread is oficially stupid HEY GUYS IM LOVIN THE NEW TOU
You forgot to type "HEY GUYS IM LOVIN THE NEW TOU" at the end of that. Fixed :PLife evolved from single cell organisms which include us.. Furthermore life has no reason, it is merely a outcome to our environment.. Stars don't have a reason to exist, they only exist because the laws of our universe has led to their creation.sSubZerOo
You are stating the obvious.
Life very probably has no meaning. We are merely just the victums of the forces of mother nature.
