I have never run into a parent who is more worried about their children seeing violence in a movie, video game, book, or anything else, as opposed to them seeing sexual content. I was able to watch any violent movie I wanted to at a very young age, but my mother freaks out even now when a sex scene comes on. She quickly changes the channel. Every parent seems to be more worried about the sexual content in a film and such, but it is a natural process of life. Just because they see it, doesn't necesarrily mean they'll go out and do it, just like the violence.

I guess I have to say that violence is worse for a child to see, but we've become so used to it that it doesn't even seem to be that bad anymore, as long as we aren't the ones displaying it.

What say you?

Gotta say violence. Sex is something that they learn anyways in life, but exposing children to violence at a early age is probably worse than sex, but then again, it depends on the degree

Violence, multiplefold. You know all that stuff about the brain and stuff how it's not developed and there's a certain part it appeals to or whatever, and the younger they are the harder it is for them to tell the difference between reality and video games. Myself, i've been playing Doom since I was like 3, but I do believe that any persons mind would have to be twisted to go on a killing spree or whatever, video games or not.

Well violence never really bothered me, and i turned out a well. But gruesome violence is worse for young children to be exposed to. Sex is natural and pretty harmless compared to over the top violence.

I'd say the former would be much more awkward, but I think that violence is worse (it's not too realistic for a 6 year old to go around imitating romantic movies instead of action movies).

I agree. I don't buy into the idea that videogames and movies make killers out of children, bad parenting and psychological issues do.

BDSM?

Bonding with your child is a good thing...

And of course, there are times when you need to spank them a little.

So BDSM is a good thing for them.

Definitely sexual content.

Think about it.

Violence is always going to be there, no matter what they see or watch, they can know it's bad.

You don't want a kid to see sexual content and then violence and try to link the two together.

Keep sex away from people until they grow into a reasonable age. They don't need to know about that stuff that young.

As a parent, I think it's violence, because they see so much of it, real and make-believe. The occasional flash of nudity wouldn't bother me near as much as the constant barrage of violence does.

Definitely sexual content for me. A lot of "fairly" violent movies such as batman and spiderman are still advertised a lot towards kids despite having a decent amount of violence. Its perfectly normal for a little 7 year old kid to be in to that kind of violence and fighting. I know I was when I was 7. Sexual content on the other hand...

Just because they're exposed to it doesn't make it okay. And the type of violence in Batman or Spiderman would be the same as a flash of a tiny bit of nudity, hell, even stuff found in womens magazines and the like. You get my point.

Hehe, I remember the first time I saw a naked breast when some crazy blonde chick that lifted her shirt up while being carried by her drunken lover or whatever in Malibu Pier back when I still lived in California, my dad looked at me and smirked "You saw it, didn't you?"

I was ten or nine I think.

Really? When they're at the same level, I'd always prefer children to see sexual content. Remember, the sexual content equivilant of Spiderman is not intercourse, it's probably making out. Intercourse is probably equivilant to Saw 5 style violence.

Agreed.

Really? When they're at the same level, I'd always prefer children to see sexual content. Remember, the sexual content equivilant of Spiderman is not intercourse, it's probably making out. Intercourse is probably equivilant to Saw 5 style violence.

Even if it was intercourse, why can't you just explain it to them? You don't even have to go into details:

Child: "What are they doing?"

Parent: "Well, you see, when two people really, REALLY love each other, like your mommy and daddy, they may choose to have a baby, and that's how they make one."

Child: "So, they are making a baby?"

Parent: "Yes, because they love each other, like your mommy and daddy."

There, problem solved, I still don't get why it's such a big deal...

I'd imagine so. I can see it much easier explaining the motivation of sexual desire to children than say, the motivation of the Jigsaw murderer.
