just graduated college. Spend my days filling out job applications and teaching myself how to use various computer programs that my stupid college failed to teach me.
I did the unemployement thing too, I left school when I was 16, sat on my ass and played games for a year and a half which was amazing at first.. but it slowely sent me crazy.
So, it was time for a job. Now i've been jumping between a few factorys through an agency for the past 3 and a half years. Not the best job thats for sure, I wish i was doing something with I.T. like most of you guys.
I work for a trucking/logistics company that specializes in shipping steel utility structures (main power lines, cell phone towers, etc). I handle all of the IT stuff for their two offices and also the bidding on loads. Bidding can be fun or it can be a real nightmare. I get specs from engineers for massive structures that weigh tens of thousands of pounds, and then need to figure out how they'll ship and what it will cost. The pricing is largely determined by market forces, but the customers do try to haggle on the price. Things are complicated by the fact that these things are often so heavy and large, they require special equipment to move. They're also rarely going directly to their destination. There's usually a trip to a galvanizer and/or paint shop. The deadlines for the bidding are often not very realistic. I might have a day to estimate 55 million pounds of freight. The IT part of my job is much more fun. It also pays better. My payscale goes up to $50/hr when I'm handling IT issues. My job is okay and I'm happy to be employed in this economy. There's decent money in logistics, and it's a field I think a lot of people don't know anything about.
[QUOTE="gotdangit"]Is that job as glamorous as I imagine? Do you often get to hop into slick cars for just that brief moment to park them?I valet cars

My job is awesome, and yes I get to jump into cars for a whole 2 minutes to park them and back up into parking spaces. It's like a puzzle trying to park them all, and fitting between two and strategizing the best place to park each car, determining how big the car is, and the best fit.
The worst part is when they leave a fart trap in their car for you.
But it is fun to drive other people's cars if even only for a few minutes.

So essentially you get to play tetris and drive a bunch of cars everyday for money. That does sound sweet.[QUOTE="Lord_Omikron666"]
