Cost of living in NY is extremely high. Even higher if you plan on living in the city. Most of my issues with the state have to do with corruption, but that's something you wouldn't experience if you were just coming here to visit.

Is that so? Interesting , so which state is the best one for living ? especially for immigrants

Living in Upstate New York isn't too bad, especially in the rural areas. Where we lived, we had a lot of Amish folks for neighbors. The foodstuff they sell are relatively low-cost (at the farmer's markets and roadside stands), not to mention fresh, non-genetically enhanced. My wife especially liked the low cost of electricity compared to here in AZ.

Besides the lake effect snow, the only bad time I know over there is two weeks in spring when the farmers spread out manure/compose/fertilizer on their fields. It stunk like hell all around.

dunno what back alleys you guys hang out in, but I think Cali rocks. =P

Where rocks exactly? My area is a dump!

I love the Lake Tahoe/Sierra Nevada area. Being from northern Nevada, I lived closer to the Tahoe area than you (two hours away). Winters are hell though. We always had to carry snow chains.

Favorite: Cali/Washington state

least: probably Mississippi or Kentucky

Mississippi is great. The part I was living in looked like it was in the foothills of some mountain, but there were no mountains around. Dear and boar abound a plenty in plethoras of packs. Also, $4k for an acre of land is a steal!

Favorite: Maryland

Not far from Baltimore and Washington D.C. Lots to do in the area I live in as well. Weather isn't too hot or cold and don't have to worry about harsh weather or tornadoes, etc. Just visited my brother in Alexandria, VA and if you take the metro, it's about a ten minute ride to D.C. That thing goes at least a 100 mph.

Least favorite: Texas

Too many crazies there and too damn hot. New Jersey and Florida also seem to be the butt of jokes here in U.S.

It's different upstate. It's almost like a completely different state when you get past Albany.

If you speak English decently and you know and respect our culture and our laws, you will get along very well in whatever state you choose to go to. I would not go to major cities. They are extremely expensive. The lower population states like North and South Dakota are very nice. And reasonably priced to live in.

That is true. I loved it. If it wasn't for the harsh winters, we'd still be living there.

Your chances of finding a job in that field are very good, I would imagine. Especially in a place like North Dakota where there are a ton of oil companies there who need engineers.
