In the Presence of Enemies - Dream Theater - 25:35.
Also happens to be the longest song in my collection. Well, I have longer tracks, but they are technically not "a song", but several songs, together in one track. One is Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence - Dream Theater - 41:32, but that is 8 songs (one whole CD) combined. But since the songs are meant to come one after the other on the CD, I stapled them together for awesomeness. The other track is a rip of one of the radio stations from GTA Vice City - V-Rock - 01:17:24. But that's a whole bunch of songs, mixed with "commercials" and other stuff.

Honorable mentions include

The Shattered Fortress - Dream Theater - 12:49
The Glass Prison - Dream Theater - 13:53
Octavarium - Dream Theater - 24:00
A Nightmare to Remember - Dream Theater - 14:10
Instrumedley - Dream Theater - 12:15
Animate-Inanimate - John Petrucci (Dream theater's guitarist) - 11:37
and The Czar - Mastodon (not Dream Theater at all) - 10:54

Is Money for Nothin' longer than ten minutes? If so, that's my favorite.

xaos

8:25. and your aware hardcore dire straits fans look down upon that song right? O_o

How will aransom be able to live with their disdain???

It looks like I have two choices.

1) Stop listening to that song because hardcore Dire Straits fans look down upon it.

2) Keep listening to it because if I like a song, I don't give a crap what other people think about it.

[QUOTE="peaceoutmedusa"] We are talking about THRILLER. Stop it.peaceoutmedusa

Yes we are. But you can't accept the fact that using blind statistics and sales numbers don't mean that something is actually "the best."

But using many experts who would agree with me would. Millions of people agree with this. I am not going to give you a source since you can find MOST OF THEM that would agree with me. Whenever someone does a special (MTV, VH1, BET) about music videos, Thriller is ALWAYS #1.

Experts? A real expert would know that you need more than just vocals and backing instruments to have a "best" song. Also, just using MTV as a "special" example is pathetically hilarious.

Thriller is under six minutes long, unless you're not talking about the Michael Jackson song...

GabuEx

The music video.

The song is still under six minutes long. :P

Yes the song itself is less than 10 minutes, themusic video is well over 10 minutes but music videos do not count, so thriller cannot be included here. Maybe you can make a thread that is"whats your favourite music video over 10 minutes long?"

Grammy for best video, nominated for record of the year. And was a landmark for the music industry, thus people making music video's as something more than just someone performing a whole song in front of a camera the whole time, and changed the pop landscape as a whole. Many artists have emulated the sound in their songs too.

Focus - Hamburger Concerto. Hasn't changed :D.

I'll also mention Genesis -Supper's Ready, King Crimson - Lizard, Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick,Yes -Gates of Delirium andPink Floyd - Shine on you Crazy Diamond just to fill out the over 20 minute catergory, cause I'm hardcore like that :P.

A good chunk of my faviourite songs are longer than 10 minutes though, which makes it difficult to decide.

your right, i just sorted my library by lenght and saw the 26:29 echoes. but did not look at the album, its a live from "bbc archives paris cinema sessions " imo the best PF albums are 1. animals 2. wish you were here 3. meddle 4. saucerful of secrets 5. live at pompei ( this is practicly a best of and if you can only get 1 album, get this ASAP. all the songs are better than studio. its the meddle era. best version of echoes, careful with that axe eugene, set the controls for the heart of the sun, one of these days that ive heard , those listed being pretty much my fav PF songs outside of animals and WYWH

Green Carnation - Light of Day, Day of Darkness 1:00:06. That's right, an hour long song. Look it up if you want :D

but my real answer would probably be any Godspeed You! song, especially from F#A# or LYSF

"Arriving Somewhere But Not Here" by Porcupine Tree

"Russia On Ice" by Porcupine Tree

the full version of "Even Less" by Porcupine Tree

Ok, pretty much ever song longer than 10 minutes by PT. :P

"Blackwater Park" by Opeth

"Crimson" by Edge of Sanity

"Crimson II" by Edge of Sanity

"Light of Day, Day of Darkness" by Green Carnation

"Wonderland" by Frost*

Apparently it's "Life is Hard on the Road" by Bang Camaro, but there are actually several minutes of silence. I'll just go with Metallica's "Suicide and Redemption," as it's four seconds short of 10 minutes.

Non-classical, probably 2112, by Rush. Full length: 20:33.

Classical, probably Beethoven's Fifth Symphony.
