linux is freedom shame on you win osx fans

dontshackzmii

I don't understand what you mean by that...

I have freedom with Windows.

Linux is just another alternative. OSX is the only closed-platform you mentioned.

Linux can run on anything you can even make your own hardware for it . windows is more locked down and makes you pay for software that should be free . you can do far more with the os on linux .

Oh I see. There's no FL Studio for Linux (and that's my favorite program) so...

[QUOTE="MAILER_DAEMON"]

Right now I'm still learning the ins-and-outs of Windows 7 on this laptop, but it didn't take long at all for me to like it better than Vista... not that that's saying much. 8) Shiny and transparent stuff aside, I like what they've done with taskbar and how they organize things, plus if the drivers worked on Vista, they're working on here. My desktop is still running XP though, which I don't see changing anytime soon unless if I decide to install something on the other partition.

That said I'd really like a computer with OS X.6. :(

Windows XP, all the way. I want a Mac too :(

I'm running Win 7 64-bit with 8 GB RAM. Works a far sight better than Vista-64.

I wish I still had a PC with XP. Microsoft will support it until 2014.

I'm using Windows 7 home Premium on laptop. The TRUE successor to Windows XP. It's superb in my opinion.... I'm also using Windows XP Home Edition for desktop computer. It's definitely was a great OS while it last....

My desktop is a dual boot of Windows Vista and Ubuntu 9.10 soon to be 10.04, Ubuntu being the main OS. I'm also getting a laptop soon and will dual boot that with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.04.

I consider 7 to be more of an upgrade to Vista than an entire new OS. I think this is precisely the case aesthetically.

My Desktop is running Windows 7 and it's fantastic, far better performance, under the hood tools are great, memory management is fantastic. Simple Backup tools. Great all the round.

My Laptop runs Windows XP and no complaints there, it will never be upgraded due to it's age, but no problems:)

[QUOTE="Rikusaki"][QUOTE="BonsaiMet"]Currently using Ubuntu 9.10. Will upgrade to 10.4 tomorrow. :) Used to use Windows up until about 3 years ago but then I discovered Linux. Never looked back.

I don't understand what's so great about Linux. I've had Ubuntu and Yellow Dog on my system before. It's just so poorly optimized! It's so slow. I had to install all the drivers manually....

I've been using Linux since 2004 and haven't had to install many drivers manually. Only video card drivers, which you often have to do in Windows as well. And Ubuntu is MUCH faster than Windows 7 on similar hardware. The requirements are about half. Having used dozens of operating systems, I can safely say that Windows Vista and Windows 7 are some of the most poorly optimised operating systems out there. The only reason people consider 7 "light" is because of how awful Vista really was.

1. Which distribution did you try? You'll find different results with something like PCLinuxOS than you would with Ubuntu.

2. When was this? Linux hardware support has been growing exponentially, year by year.

3. You should have done some research before you installed.

4. I've NEVER had Ubuntu not recognize my sound or LAN cards. Never. And I've installed literally dozens of times.

Windows 7 on both my current computers - Home Premium on one and Professional on another. Wouldn't mind Profession on both, to be honest, as the built-in backup function is quite nice if you ignore its massive restriction in the home version. I ran Fedora for a while for **bleep**s and giggles before realizing that I was only doing it for the novelty and promptly removed it. I might dabble with Linux some other time if I ever fix my old laptop or something, but it certainly won't be a primary or even secondary OS for me.

That's the best way to describe it, and especially considering that it takes up less memory than Vista, it's somewhat unexpected. I like it better than XP, but I haven't run it through all the tests yet. Vista wouldn't even recognize the Diablo CD... will this?

It should, at least I think it should... If it doesn't I would look to the Diablo boards for some advice

What software do you need? And it's not as if I'm trying to convince you to use it in the first place. I'm just pointing out incorrect parts of your statements.

Windows 95? Any OS prior to XP SP3 would be potentially dangerous to connect to the Internet with, as Microsoft support no longer exists. Security exploits galore that you pray your anti-virus software will stop.:)

Dual booting W7 and Debian. Once I get a netbook I'll probably put Arch and/or Backtrack on there and W7 (though hopefully I don't lose too much battery life on the Linux distros).

Yeeeah...for some reason I really don't see many hackers bothering to create viruses for Windows 95 these days. Nor do I see many sites trying to take advantage of Windows 95 security exploits. Furthermore, any sites with malicious scripts designed to attack Windows 95 probably went offline when geocities did.

Not that it matters, I'd be using it for playing old games, not browsing the internet with.
