Like Theothock said, Wiki is good for unofficial information. I use wiki all the time for trivial info...for example info on music and movies.

It's pretty awesome, imo. The slight inaccuracies are made up for by the convenience.

the editors are everyday internet users, and the articles are not peer reviewed by professionals or experts. hence citing wikipedia for an acedemic paper is poor scholarship IMHO. but it is acceptable and useful to use as a gateway to credible sources, where the guidelines for credibility depend on the context of the paper.

otherwise, wikipedia is a fun website for killing time or informal learning.

Yeah. I was interested in dreams one friday night and I looked it up on Wikipedia. 3 hours of reading. It was great. Very interesting.
