Who will come to OUR rescue?

I have no problem with the situation in Haiti btw, thats not where this stems from, i'm just wondering though.
Do you think we will get overseas aid?
Will we need it?

I laughed. I think when it finally hits California it will not be even remotely close to Haiti. Yes, some structures may collapse. Yes, there will be fires and broken roads, but for the most part we here in California should do just fine. That is, assuming we do not get some type of super earthquake that awakens The Kraken. If that happens were boned.

You see though, that is what is likely to happen. I mean, what else would happen? Its only logical.

When the earthquake finally hits California nobody will even notice because they'll just think it's some new movie, Californians included.

I think we'll be able to take care of ourselves. It wouldn't be as bad because our buildings are built to withstand Earthquakes. Not sure what magnitude though.

The question was 'Who will come to our rescue' (and more specifically: Do you think we will get overseas aid?), not what kind of disaster is expected.

CubaOne of the first countries to offer aid, Cuba offered to send 1,586 doctors and 26 tons of medicine. This aid was rejected by the State Department.

Ive been in two major earthquakes in California one was a 6.7 and the other a 6.2 which happened on the same day. Northridge quake. Our building standards are much much higher here in the US than in countries like Haiti. The problem is that they build buildings as cheaply as possible with little standards. That is not the case in the US.. if a 7.0 hit LA, yeah there would be some damage and some loss of life but not near the point of what we are seeing in Haiti. The San Fransico quake of 1989 was a 7.0 richter scale, and it did a little damage and only killed 63 people. So little help if any would be needed.

I assumed you were intelligent enough to know what I was referring to based on your link and the topic we are posting in. Excuse me for making assumptions. Well, Katrina was a **** storm of a natural disaster and alone does not really set a trend on how the government will handle EVERY natural disaster that occurs stateside. To assume that the same behavior will be repeated for any natural disaster seems kind of crazy to me.

Aid didn't pour in from other countries because Bush screwed up the response, most of the aid was offered before criticisms of the governments response even began.

You guys are both assuming that a 7.0 earthquake would have the same effect here as it did in Haiti. In 1989 San Francisco hada 7.0 magnitude quake. 63 people died. Though there was some damage it was NOTHING compared to what Haiti is going through and the reason is US's building standards in earhtquake zones. Our buildings are built to be able to withstand quakes where Haiti's are built cheaply and with little standards.

Wrong. I'm assuming only that if we need it, international aid will be available. I haven't said a word about an Earthquake, I have no idea where you read that.

Well the thread is called "When that earthquake happens in California" so I naturally thought thats what you guys were talking about. My bad I guess.

My point is that Earthquake HAS happened in California with little damage and loss of life. Though I agree, if there was a catastrophe so big that we needed aid I have no doubt that others would come to help.

California will split into two. NorCal will slide down to Mexico while SoCal crashes into Alaska. Both sides will fight for survival in the wilderness, but in the end NorCal survives because we have Arnold, and SoCal will have petty cash...

It's gonna take something alot to do any real damage in California. They're pretty prepared for Earthquakes (I.E. that Earthquake over 20 years ago was a 6.9 and killed a total of 63 people)

I hope you guys realize that there is potential for an earthquake much larger than a 7.0. An 8.0 earthquake is about 100 times stronger than a 7.0 with a 9.0 beign 100 times stronger than an 8.0. It is thought that the Earthquake on the west coast of North America has the potential for being above a 9.0.
